Question about Hellboy's Flat Top Hair for Genesis and Genesis 2

Both versions of Flat Top Hair for Genesis and Genesis 2 was the whole time a freebie, now it's a commercial product. Does that mean, that I use now an illegal product, when I use the freebie version any longer or download the freebie versions from one of the many locations in the internet.
Apart from That I don't understand the reasons to release a former freebie, which any collector has, now as a commercial product, instead to release something totally new, which was not shared on any freebie board.

I contacted Soto on DA, he said all of his former freebies are free to current owners. I am unsure what you're talking about when it comes to a Gen2F/Gen2M version, there was only the Genesis one.
Hellboy's free version of this was removed from ShareCG some months ago, when he first released the Commercial version on another site.
AFAIK the commercial version is updated and has better specs.
Hi!
As chohole said, I used to offer a free, light version of the hair some time ago temporarilly (For Genesis only). Months ago, I decided to retire it.
That version you got once for free is not the same one and is no longer available anywhere, but you still can use it if you got it back then, just like the DAZ items that are temporarilly free at some point. The one offered now at the store is the only version available and is updated with morphs, more options and support to compile with DAZ quality standards.
I am working on new products right now that will be available only here as well as long as DAZ accepts them.
Thanks! :-)
Cecilia you're right there was only one version released as freebie. Thank you chohole for the information about the updates.
Soto, if you had to put this this information in the description earlier, I would not have asked. But it's great to hear that you work on new products. I adore your Hellboy-character and love the former releases.
Another question - is the hair a conforming or a smart prop?
Conforming. :)
Thanks for making it confoming. :)
Might want to update the Face Groups though. I'm seeing 'lToe' there.
That's a lovely image!
Thank you!
There is an almost similar style that came with either David5 or Michael5 pro packs, it is a royal pain to convince the thing to work on Genesis2. I kind of only used that style once, and not even on Genesis2. This is a really tempting product.
Pleas forgive the n00b sounding question. Looking at the promos, it is difficult to tell if that is a hair style like most others, or dose it require LAMH or another hair-geometry engine thing?
(Edit, David5 with that hair style, not Flat-Top by Hellboy.)
It's fibre-hair, like the Unshaven Beard and Body Hair.
Logan likes his new look. :)
Thanks, HB, this is a great product!

I take it this "fibre-hair" (FiberMesh Hair?) uses a fiber-geometry engine thing, that is built into daz Studio, or other?
Yeah, it's been around for a while. Quite a lot of Neftis's hairs for Gen 5 used it.
It's fibre mesh hair, but not as dense as some of the others (Xanadu Hair) comes to mind. The good thing about fibre mesh hair is the hair strands don't have any opacity maps, so they will be faster to render than transmapped hair (generally). Only the skull cap have an opacity map.
It still have a lof of geometry though, so using it with any ambient occlusion will still occur a penalty in render time. But that can be minimized by other means (using a occlusion sample override like the one in UberSurface/UberSurface2) or by using alternate samples via flagging (AoA's lights).
I bought it after Hellboy posted it's conforming. The only gripe I have is that the strands near the hairline are thick (in size, not density). But I can probably fix that quite easy. I really like the skull cap texture though - finally a workable skull cap I've been wishing for. No more of that flattened hair look.
This hair is great and came out just in time for some promos I needed to do. Thanks, Hellboy!
Oh awesome!!
Glad you're enjoying it! :D
Thanks for making this hair for all three of them!

What settings did you use for the hair worn by the girl in the pink dress? Because I can't seem to make it look as good as that, either in 3Delight or Reality 4. It tends to look unnatural for me, despite trying out various settings for offset and other parameters. Is there something I'm missing?
Part of it may be the lighting - I used an Advanced Ambient Light (I LOVE them!) and a "normal" Spotlight Shadows set to Raytraced.
Now to remember the settings from those material options I used ...
Uhm
Ambient ON
Displacement Long
Opacity OFF
Morphs:
Front Length 97.5%
Front Thickness -67.5%
Noise 37.5%
For a close up I would set the Opacity to ON - and just accept the looooooooong render time ...:
Total Rendering Time: 26 minutes 0.33 seconds
for this one:
Another one - close up

Settings for the hair:

Front Thickness -100%
Move Left 71.2%
Ambient OFF
Displacement Long
Opacity OFF
