Arghhh, I purchased the marvelous new Minotaur6 but I goofed and got the base figure instead of the bundle with harness, poses, loincloth & toast. Can I pay the difference and get the rest of the bundle? Or possibly order the bundle and get a refund for the base figure? If so, do I have to do that tonight to get the 30% discount?

If you've got enough, buy the bundle you want, and then submit a ticket for the refund on your purchase of the original order of the base.

    1. How does he look without HD?
    2. Are the horns geografting?
    3. Is geograft ever going to work in Carrara?

    Howdy Cbird,

I just purchased this, and did quick test in Carrara 8.5.1 (Public Beta Build). The horns seem to be fine, and I suspect they are not geografted. However, both the tail and the legs look terrible (must be geografted) Neither pieces are connected to the main mesh, and there is a noticeable gap, as well as the UV gets messed up. :-(

    Thank you, have done that.

Unfortunately, I've determined that Minotaur6 rendered by my Studio4 setup on my alternate computer finally bogs it down to intolerable slowness. Boogers! :-( That means I either have to get a new and better machine or I have to move my Studio4 and Genesis library to my primary machine with my Studio3 setup and its huge and sacred M1, M2, M3, M4 libraries plus all my architecture and environments. I'm not ready to give up Studio3 yet and I dread mixing Studio3 and Studio4 on the same machine. So I guess I need to start thinking about a new machine. $$$

Note: I'm not sure why, but that alternate computer is a 64-bit, 2.4GHz, Pentium Core2-duo maxed out with 4GB RAM and it used to work really spiffy with Studio3 under Windows7-Pro until I upgraded it to be my Windows8-Pro machine and use it as my DAZ Studio4 machine. Sometimes it really drags even doing normal stuff not related to DAZ.

I see the same as Rich S---plus poses don't seem to work in Carrara...I get a "can't find G2M" error when applying a pose. But, in DS it looks great!

I must say Minotaur's clothing looks nice on M6. =-)

I'm curious what the tail looks like. I can't see a very good shot where it is displayed. Can you use it on a more humanoid figure or does it look weird?

Here is the tail on G2M (with the Minotaur texture)...

Nicely done! Thanks for showing that. Does it render slowly with just the texture on g2m?

No, not compared to the head. It was less than a minute for me, but with fancy lights and shadows I would estimate 3 to 4 minutes.

Thanks for the response. =-) I am tempted by some of Minotaur's outfits which might be useful on G2M. Knowing he also has useful attachments and skin is a plus.

In the end, it all comes down to the tail :-)

IMO, the HD morphs/textures are really nice. The horns tipped the scale for me....

that's what i was curious about - rendering time on an HD character. I've had a few peeps say it's a lot slower. My laptop is i7, 8gb with a 2gb nvidia card, and normally i have fast render times. But it's just the HD bit that has me hesitant.

The HD stuff takes longer for me, but I think the results are worth it. If I'm not rendering an extreme close-up, I wouldn't go HD.

A couple tips for dealing with Minotaur rendering slowly (due to being an HD figure). Simplest thing of course is to dial out the HD Morph for head and body to zero, which is fine for further back renders.

But when still using the HD morphs, you can speed things back to closer-to-normal speed by limiting occlusion and subsurface calculations wherever possible. If you have AgeOfArmour's Advanced lights, use them in place of UberEnvironment and default DAZ lights. They use lower sample values for SSS on default settings. Reduce Ambient Occlusion samples from 128 to 64 or 48 on Ambient Lights, or on UberEnvironment if using that.

As an example, I had a scene with the HD Minotaur that had 4 lights - UberEnvironment 2, Distant Light, a Spec Only Distant Light, and a Spot Light. It took well over 2 hours to render. I swapped those lights for an Advanced Ambient Light with 64 AO samples, an Advanced Distant Light, an Advanced Spot Light. I left the Spec Only light since it doesn't have shadows. Now the same scene renders in about 30 minutes.

So you can make a HD character non-HD (especially if you're not planning on doing a close up of him?)

Yes, just a matter of dialing out the HD details dials. There's one for the whole character that will pull down both the head and body details, or you can take down the head or body details individually as in pic.

oh excellent, thank you! I didn't know that - I don't have any HD characters so was unsure how it worked. ;D

It does depend on the character - I think most of the DAZ original HDs are additional morphs that can be used or not on top of the base morphs, but PA products will vary.

Thank you both! I appreciate the information. Really wish we could at least get a forecast on geografting.

    Thanks jakiblue! :)

And Richard is absolutely right, with PA products that use HD, they may not split the shape and HD details like that. Sometimes the product description will tell you, listing a shape and an HD shape, and if it only lists one then it's harder to tell, but oftentimes may only dial up as HD.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this, but here goes. While I like the look of the new minotaur bull, I can't say the same for his cow companion. Yes, the bulls need a cow, but have you ever seen one with a less realistic looking udder ? I nearly died laughing when I saw what they'd posted for Taurette. :) Poor female minotaurs..forever doomed to appear in public naked from the waist down if you want to show them with the udder. I defy you to find any of your normal, classical female skimpware that'll fit over *that* set of mammaries !! :)

Can the texture and LAMH presets for Taurette be used on Minotaur 6 without the Taurette specific morphs? Thanks!
