Questions re Faveral's stuff....

In the Provence product:
http://www.daz3d.com/provence

I can see it's a preload with everything there, but is it possible to either unparent and disappear or make some things invisible? For instance, if I just want to use the road with a couple of buildings, can that be done?

Same with the Medieval Docks:
http://www.daz3d.com/medieval-docks

Can you use just the river and bridge for instance?

Do they render ok in DS (as opposed to Poser)? Surface adjustments needed for DS, or are there DS mats?

Thanks :-)

    Docks
    there are DS matts
the bridge and base are one prop docks and buildings all separate

Provence has separate props like flower pot bench umbrella table and buildings in separate rows 6 of them and square and street separate

Here's an exploded view of Provence, without the street furniture props or sky dome.

Ok Provence is in the cart :-)

anyone got any other recommendations for his stuff?

Does the water in the Medieval Docks look as awesome in DS as it does in his promos?

I do highly recommend Medieval Docks, but you shouldn't expect the same quality out of the water as you see in the promo images. I recall a thread in the old forum, I think, where Faveral explained how he did the water in the promos (I think he said the promos were done in Vue...I could be misremembering that though).

My thoughts on the included water plane: it's not bad, but it isn't the best water plane I've encountered (I think my favorite is the one from Faveral's Viking Village). It is possible to swap in another water plane, if you want to change how the water looks.

One other thing worth noting about the Medieval Docks promos is that the tree is not included. I think it comes from one of Faveral's other sets. The Docks is a really cool set though...DAZ 3D's artists have used it repeatedly in promo images for DAZ Original products; that should tell you something. :)

I had to look at the promos again to see what tree you were talking about LOL. I have heaps of tree props tho, so I'm not worried about that.

I have some water shaders and other water planes...hmmm the one I'm thinking of is a PC item I think....had a couple of different water variations and I really liked how it came out....can't think of it's name, but I think the water was used in that PC item that was of the "party houseboat" and everyone was asking where the water was from LOL

The viking village is amazing, but honestly, I don't think I'd ever find a use for it. Even for just the water plane, but the buildings and such - while they look fabulous - I just wouldn't use.

I'm grabbing Medieval Docks and Provence, I think. While I may probably never use them as a whole scene, I can certainly see myself using the buildings or the road or the bridge etc. :D

I think my used set is the Opus Magnus one.

Ehm, is it OK for me to hijack this thread for another question concerning Faveral's stuff? ell, if not, please forgive me, cause I'm just gonna ask away - does anyone know if the props from his 'Medieval Construction Props' set have any kind of articulation? I have a few scenes in mind that could use them, but if they're just static props then...well, then they're just static props I guess :D

The Medieval Construction props are static - rigging them, for my own use, is on my (very long) to-do list though in DS it would probably be enough to use the Geometry Edit tool to break them into pieces and parent for most.

    Ah, OK, thanks a lot!

Guess I'll have to meditate over it a bit more :D

oh Provence is fantastic! Just loaded it up in DS and have been playing :-) All the house rows can be used on their own etc. The only thing is, the skydome doesn't load with a texture - I had to manually browse to the skydome jpg and put it in. How do we submit a ticket for a fix nowadays?

oh you're determined to make me spend more money I don't have, aren't you? LOL.

That looks wonderful. Also quite in love with the Explorer's Den adn the Opus Magnum. So MANY props in those, that I could use on their own too.

...thought about the Explorer's Den for one of the rooms of the Grande Manor from my story. The Wine Cellar is another. I know, way too many nice sets, not enough money.

Wendy, two quick questions: can the ceiling be made invisible (for lights or camera) and is the set you can see outside the doors part of it (skydome/background) or was that yours?

Yes can as walls ceiling all separate so removing or excluding from lights possible
no, are iclone plants a plane and iclone sky
incidenly my render has no bump either as too many maps to fix and obj mtl file does not have bump variable to import at less than 100% for iclone. A limitation of obj export sadly. FBX will do shaders crrectly but all items in zero co-ordinates so cannot win.
