folders for Bryce content separate from Daz3d Carrara content - how do you do this with DIM

Install Manager problem

Recently purchased a number of Bryce tutorials and content items.

The installation of these content items is not working out.

Below you will find attachement images of my Install Manager Windows.

It seems the installation is tied to the user account.

Notice in the one window with the dowloads location it points to

BRYCE/Bryce downloads

The DIM pays no attention to this setting.(download lcoation)

Notice the number of installed items.

The Bryce downloads folder has only 22 items in it.

The Daz3d / Carrara account has 300 items in it.

I have tried repeatedly to get the bryce files to install in a separate folder BRYCE/Bryce Library

Effectively, I thought when you specify the download folder the DIM would place only those items in the download folder for install.

As it is, you can see it really doesn't matter what I do the installation is the 300 items in the DAZ3D/My Library

So, I downloaded the files origninally from Daz3d store into the BRYCE/Bryce Download folder, but I cannot get the DIM to access that folder.

I have uninstalled all the bryce files and then made sure I set the location for install to the BRYCE/Bryce Library
No go, it just reinstalled in the DAZ 3D/My Library again.

I gather this may be fixable, if I create separate accounts for separate applications, i.e., DAZ3Dstudio/Carrara, Bryce, Hexagon.
This may just be a bad install, it could be bug...or it could be something I am not doing correctly.

I have a problem and that is this... I do not think I want the Bryce Content items in the same folder with the DAZ3D and Carrara content.

If one giant repository of content is OK and won't affect anything I guess I can go with it. Otherwise, I could use some pointers, suggestions or workarounds to resolve this.

So see if I have this right, you already installed these and now they won't install to the place you want. Do you delete all the 22 items before installing to the new location?

The content folders you set up on the Installation tab are only for DS/Poser content. Bryce content installs to the location Bryce is installed on the Applications tab.

So you don't need to set up a path to Bryce then??

I tried uninstalling from the 300 in the installed in the DAZ3D/My Library as well. The 22 bryce items were showing up in the downloads... I made sure the install location was the BRYCE/bryce library. I selected the 22 items for the queue and it reinstalled right back into the DAZ3D/My Library

I set the install manager for the folder BRYCE/Bryce Downloads folder, which has all 22 items in it as well. The DIM would not read those files and install them.

I am reluctant to reinstall the DIM, because the content management application is tied in with it. The content management gave me major headaches trying to get it working correctly. I installed the DIM on my H:\ drive and the content manager is default to C:\HDD. My C:\drive is a SSD 128GB and it is full. I don't know what kind of resources it would need, since it does seem to have a database of it's own.

WOW! Did I miss something or what? So you are saying...the DIM is only for DS/Poser content and that would include Carrara as well.

I thought the applications box was only to show where the files were installed by the DIM, not a location you "had to include" in your settings for placement of files.

Someone really needs to make a tutorial video on working with the DIM for situations like this.

I probably missed this, because I could not access the DIM documents for several days because of some problem with my user name being changed from "myname@email.com" to myname_email.com

I appreciate so much the help on this issue. I started on this problem yesterday and spent three hours on it this morning before I posted this thread. I am going to proceed right now to fix this. It is a relief not to have to reinstall the DIM and especially the content management thing. Whew!

    Thank you

I am replying to my last posting.

    Look at the attachments

Please note in the top attachment the Installed column
I assumed the Bryce content was actually within the folder I specified DAZ 3D/My Library.

In other words I thought the display of 300 installed content items was from the My Library.

The way you define location for installation in DIM that would seem normal.

The second attachment does show the path correctly for the various applications.
When I first started with the DIM I thought those pointers were there for you to define where those applications installed.
It is confusing, because you can install applications from the DIM... or can you?
I had problems installing applications from the DIM
It took a while for me to catch on.
I could not determine why the applications were not showing up in the programs and features in Control panel.
Since the application was not showing up in the programs and features it was not possible to uninstall from that panel.
I did some time consuming workarounds before I realized the DIM installation of applications was not working as I thought.
I finally realized my install problem was caused by installing applications from the DIM.

I solved my install problems by installing all applications directly, right click run as administrator.
Do NOT INSTALL applications from DIM, only content.

When I clicked on the litte arrow to the right of the content item and selected "show installed files"
The popup in white shows the location of the installed files to be in /presents/Content/ ~ .
As a new user of Daz3D applications I never clicked on that arrow to see that information.
I would not have known what that popup really meant, if I had not read the above posting by fixmypcmike

The third attachment does not include the entire file pointer ( the first part missing) so you would not know where it was actually installed. Being new to Daz3D it is not easy to discern the file structure...especially with what goes where.

There should some kind of immediate way to identify file locations, if they aren't actually in the installed folder the user specified.
Yes, now I will know...but this has been a frustrating experience. Look at the bryce file sizes and think about the inordinately slow download speeds in the DIM. I hope someone pays attention.
