Saving and missing assets

What to do. I've had this problem before. Setup a scene - love the lighting - reopen a few days later and items such as lights or materials are missing or simply incorrect. Is there someway to avoid this?

Weird if the content libraries are set up correctly and the TimeLine is clear this should never happen and it has never happened to me so I am sorry I can't help.

Where is the scene saved? Can you go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats", and post a screenshot? Are you getting error messages about missing data storables, missing jpg's, or both?

Not getting any error messages. I don't use Poser anymore, just DAZ though I have had varieties of Poser installed over the years. Just lights that are not setup correctly or missing, materials are missing. Frustrating.

In what way are the lights missing -- do they not show up in the Scene pane, or not have correct settings? Do the materials just show as white, but don't ask you to locate files?

    Where is the scene saved?

You should remove the Poser 10 Runtime from the DAZ Studio Formats list -- that can cause problems, especially if you're saving DS scenes there.

Yes, the lights are missing or lose their settings. And yes, the materials such as skin for the neck are all white. Senes are saved in a folder on my desktop (c drive). Oooh, don't know about removing the Poser 10 Runtime... it's the only one that loads correctly in the Content Library i.e., lights, sets, props, poses, etc. All the other Poser directories (Poser 9, Pro 2010) show nothing in the content library.

It shouldn't be showing under DAZ Studio Formats, only under Poser Formats. You've got a lot of nested content folders in the Poser Formats section, which could be why they aren't working right.

So some lights are gone altogether and some are present but with incorrect settings? And the neck is white but other parts of the body show normally? Is this both in viewport and when rendered?

Yes, that's correct on the lights, and ditto on the skin. Most loads normal, but in this case the neck is all white on the renders, not in the preview. Other times, the face will be black in both preview and on the renders. I believe something on the lights is I merged or imported another file into the scene with or without lights, then deleted or turned off the new lights, but later the scene lights I setup correctly were either gone, or not setup at all and my render looked much like the preview window.

The black or white skins sounds like a shader issue, although it seems strange for that to happen on only some surfaces of the same figure. If you go to the Surfaces pane and look at one of the surfaces that isn't rendering correctly, what does it show for Shader at the top?

On the lights, is it only in scenes in which you had merged in other lights?

I've got a render going on but will check the Shader soon. Yes, on the lights, I believe it was due to either a merge of another DAZ scene, or import Collada file or obj.
