Syncing dancing character animation to music tempo

Hi,

I'm trying to make simple children song videos with characters dancing to music. Is there any way to enter a song tempo/beats per minute and automatically sync character movements to that?

If not what's the easiest/best method to sync character movements to music beats?

Okay, I'll throw in my two cents, but you are in BIG trouble if mine is the only reply to your enquiry given my vast experience of creating a grand total of two videos! %-P

I don't know of any syncing program, but they may be out there.

What I did in my videos: Bambi meets Godzilla 2K11 and Thriller 2K14 was to add a reference music track in aniMate 2, then adjust the speed of the dance aniBlocks, then render [in an image sequence rather than as a video]. Then compile the image sequence into a video after rendering using one of the free programs out there. Note, the music track will not be part of this file, it is only for reference. I'm not sure, but I don't think that aniMate 2 will include the music track even if you DO render as a video file.

Then in your video editing software, add the music track and adjust the speed of the dance movements by speeding up or slowing down the playback speed.

If you intend to have other actions in frame as well, this would not work given it would also speed up or slow down the non-dance movements. If faced with that, I might either block my shots to avoid that from occurring, or render in two passes with the first image sequence being the background and non-dance moves, and the second image sequence being the dancers in png format with everything else removed to get a transparent background. Then compile the two images in the video editing software.

There likely are better ways to get what you want. I just play around to try to get to the results I want...

    Good Luck!

Thanks ebayjoy I'm using this technique now! Sorry I didn't thank you earlier. I do wish video software had tempo mapping ability (Sony Vegas does).
