I want to start something new, but unsure how--advanced modifying of figures

So I decided after so long of using others' morphs on figures, I want--and sort of need--to do something new. But I have no idea how to go about it.

I've always wondered how people can morph figures like Genesis to make new characters, like Asian characters, etc. by creating lovely new morphs. The only "morphing" I know how to do is using DForm, and I very much doubt this is what sellers are doing. Another example is taking a figure like the DAZ horse and being able to change it to different breeds.

Can someone point me in the right direction? How are morphs made? In DAZ or outside? The only 3D program I have right now is DAZ, but I also want to start soon with Hexagon. My ultimate goal is to be able to create some of my own characters... and a goal I have right now is to try to modify the DAZ Horse 2 into a direhorse from Avatar (this seems like it's going to be really complicated, though, because I will have to add things that aren't there).

    I have no idea if it can be done in Studio, but I know you can make morphs in Carrara, there are even several tutorial videos out there on how to do it and save the morphs. I imagine the process is much the same for other software that can create and save morphs, so maybe give them a glance to see if this is something you'd be comfortable doing.     The easiest way to make morphs is to use a 3D sculpting program like Zbrush or Autodesk Mudbox. That way, you don't have to deal with making morphs vertex by vertex and it'll turn out much smoother.

    The two programs I mentioned are kinda expensive. Some free alternatives you might want to try are Sculptris and Blender. Also, if you're a student, you can get a free license of Autodesk Mudbox (or any Autodesk product) by registering onto their student website. Just search them up on your preferred search engine and you'll find them easily.
