DAZ Rose is 3D Printable!

Well, that didn't take long. The question is, who is going to print it?
"But this particular rose has more than meets the eye. The DAZ rose was specially designed with 3D printing in mind. The petals, calyx, and stem were designed to create enough intersection conducive to a quality 3D print. It has special "thicken" morphs that allow you to scale and size the petals, the stem, and the thorns so that they can be 3D printed. It also includes a 3D Printable base with a matching hole for the stem."

This is so exciting! Who will give me a 3D printer as a birthday present (my birthday is in late Spring, but some little things in advance are always gladly accepted...)?!!!
And it looks like the last three promo pictures are actual photographs of the 3D "print". This could get confusing in the future - trying to work out which pictures are renders and which are photos. :coolsmirk:
More importantly: will DAZ EULA allow 3D printing?
I'm wondering if they are going to do a separate category for the printables. If not, they should. They have to be separated out so those wanting to do printing don't have to click on each product and read to see the status.
A note on the pic would solve that, I guess.

I actually did think at first that they were the usual "clay" renders. In fact I am still not sure, now I look, that the seventh colour picture is not also a photograph. It does not have the DAZ Studio watermark.
That sounds needed - if EULA allows 3D printing. Actually, I have a friend who's constatly positively buggering me about making some figurines out of DS. I still have to tell him he must ask DAZ personally about that as EULA is unclear about printing.
The EULA has been updated to include 3D Printing for personal use.
Also, prints are available.

So you need to purchase a game developper licence to use 3D printing?
Oh how handy, I bought the indy one the other day!!!
guess Cubify is gonna get my next tax refund monies!

Considering that you can only print for personal use, that's one heck of an investment (the printer+game developer's license for Daz O's, plus any licenses for other content) for something just for fun. I'm hoping that's misplaced (the cease and desist proviso is double printed in section one talking about using Daz Content in 3D format) 'cause if it's not, I can think of a lot of things I can better spend my money on than a game developers license just to put some knicknacks about the house/make minis for my games.

The Game Dev license is not required.
Thanks. I just read that in the other thread and was about to edit my post to reflect it. :)
Thats fine too, I bought it so I could make a game anyway
So its only for Genesis 2 Models only???
Also, what if I have clothing from Genesis and or M4/V4 on Genesis 2.
It would be nice if all the above on Genesis M4/V4 can be 3D printed. My creations are utilizing EVERYTHING!
Oooh, a rose! I have been wanting one for ages
Just bought the rose with the new PC coupie :3
You might want to hold off on that. We're working to get an seeing if we can get some information and possibly an ongoing posts from our resident 3D print expert, especially since it is such a fast evolving space.
That being said, we do have a number of different types of printers here, including the cube. You'll be disappointed with the results to say the least. There are other "consumer grade" printers which can do a decent job, but all have their own caveats or gotchyas. But all the FDM printers are just too low resolution and bad in general for things other than super simple geometric shapes.
As for what printer you might want to get to play with, I'll leave that to our main 3D print guy to expand upon (maybe a series of blog posts or something).
The plan is to have a "3D Print Ready" attribute soon. That's because some things (like Genesis 2) are print ready, and can just be posed and printed. Other things (like hair, clothing, etc) may be 3D printable... but it can depend on what content, what materials you're printing in, what printer you're using, what scale the figure is being printed in (thus what thickness things are), etc.
It can get pretty complicated, and honestly there is a huge discrepancy between different printers and different materials.
But look for us to roll out some things to help with your customer print needs soon ;)
We have so much cool stuff coming out this year... I just wish I could talk early. But mum's the word :)

The Game Dev license is not required.
But if you wanted to make 3D printed characters for sale, would that be done through the Game Dev license? Or is that possible at all?
Not that I would be doing that any time soon, but hey, I thought I'd ask :)

Not yet finalized, but it is unlikely to be the Game Developer License for that.
Sounds awesome, maybe toward the end of the year I can get a custom 3D printed model, are the custom prints going to be a lot more expensive than the ones available or is it unknown yet?
