How to Go Back to an Earlier Version of D|S?

I have 4.7 of D|S. I'm looking at 4.8. The thing is I'm on a Macintosh, and sometimes the newer versions of D|S pose problems. I've been told that I can't have both 4.7 and 4.8 on my HD at the same time. If I'm dissatisfied with 4.8, what would I do to go back to 4.7? Would going back to the earlier version somehow pose problems when I tried to run 4.7 again?
Could I, for example, keep 4.7 on my backup drive, delete 4.8 and copy 4.7 back onto my HD?
Or, what would I do if I wanted to go back to the earlier version of 4.7?

I don't know why you can't run both on the same computer, given that I currently have 4.7 and the 4.8 beta installed. So it must be possible. When you use DIM it will overwrite the older version but I think if you have the older version downloaded and saved, you should be able to install it separately and have it working as well. However I would like to confirm that myself before I install 4.8! :)
Thank you for trying to help. I think that was true of the beta, but this is called the "general release," or something like that, and a moderator told me that no, you can't have both 4.7 and 4.8 at the same time. If this happens to be wrong (anybody can be wrong) please let me know.
Basically, you need the install file backed up...there's too many 'under the hood' things that go on for DS to run as a 'portable' executable. So to go back, you would need to uninstall 4.8 and then use the backed up installer to reinstall 4.7.
I don't think I have a backedup install file. Can the install file for 4.7 still be downloaded?
Hi inquire,
I thought I'd experiment. :) I had both 4.7 and the 4.8 beta installed on my laptop. Using DIM I just installed the public build of 4.8. I now have both 4.7 and 4.8 installed on the same pc. So I guess it is possible to have both.
If you don't have a copy of 4.7 you can try to put a ticket in to DAZ3D. In my experience they are pretty good about supplying you with an older version.
OK, well, thank you for the thought.
To have two versions...yes, one should be the beta. That is the only 'official', supported configuration of two of the same 'main' version (4.8 and 4.9 are the same 'main' version).
Well, in my Shared folder, with the DAZ installers, I have files such as IM00013176-04_DAZStudio48Mac64bit for, I guess, the installation of DS 4.8. Now, if I saved those out, and installed DS 4.9, and couldn't get 4.9 to work properly for me, could I replace the 4.8 installer files, open the DIM, and select reinstall? Would that reinstall the 4.8 version of DAZStudio? I'm not trying to cheat. I'm just trying to see if I could go back to a version that worked, if I find problems with 4.9. It seems people are reporting plenty of problems.
Yes, that is the file you would need to save...
Also save the plug-in installers, as they get updated in tandem with the main applciation and the newer versions won't work with the older DS.
Yep, I saw the installers, just didn't mention them. OK, now if I do decide to go back: I drag the saved files into the DIM files. Then, I start the DIM. Would I find those files under "Ready to Install"? I would not want to Uninstall DAZStudio, would I? What I'm asking here is just what precisely the procdure to follow is. Is there some other way to locate the files I want to install?
Make sure DIM is offline or it won't show the older installers, it will just show the updates ready to download.
That's certainly good to know. I check Work Offline and Start the DIM. Then, where do I find the older installers? Will they be under Ready to Install? Will they be under Installed? Do I have to Uninstall the version of DAZStudio that I do not want? Will the older version of DAZStudio just install over the newer one? I'm on a Macintosh, in case this makes a difference, running OS X 10.11.4 (the latest).
They should show under Ready to Install and the existing install will be uninstalled when it is installed. If it doesn't show them in Ready to Install, then uninstall the existing version.
Make sure you just have the .zip in the download folder, delete the matching.dsx if it's there also.
Oh, really? Why don't I want the matching .dsx file? I'm just trying to learn and get eveything right if I do go back.
http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/install_manager/referenceguide/tech_articles/package_supplement_file/start explains what the .dsx files are and do.
