Except our profiles no longer show location, Mustakettu. But I'm assuming you are referring to the longest railway in the world?

Hmm, thanks for letting me know; that's actually a pity they removed that field. If anything, it meant that people had all the good reasons to start disliking me right away without bothering to interact =D And - yes, to a point (but of course, I'm at one of the ends of the railway and have never travelled it).

You from Russia right ? I was there when it was called CCCP , I speak Russian since 1979 , I had German, Polish and Russian in my school  , in 1984-5 they added English and French , I still remember a lot of poetry in Russian and old classic songs like Очи чёрные and Калинка LOL  but due to not speaking often anymore slowly forgot a lot.. still can read . I love to interact with everyone , if you don't know nothing about others culture you don't know nothing about your own .

That is a very good idea ! Added ro the list I bring from Shwarzwald  2 of the big cow's bells like the one Milka Cow wearing in the Add hahaha  lol it was hanging on a nice wood as decoration in Holland

Herten is not far from Essen right? , I live in Essen 2 years in the early 90s , and one day we go to Fenlo and after to Lemmer in Friesland to buy yacht boot for my father and I loved it there so much my father purchased me a house in Lemmer by the beach and I moved there ..of course I had everyone weekly visiting me ..sneaky move ;)

    Hallo Cath,

I know exactly what you mean. Cath gave away some HDRIs in one of the "Show Us Your Iray Renders" threads, back when 4.8 was still in beta. I was busy working that week and didn't have time to hang out in the forums. By the time I saw the links, they were gone. Stick around, though. Rumor has it she's not done yet.

Cath, that's awesome =) Do you know Андрей Белый? My favourite poet, he was a huge influence on Mayakovsky.

I only had three foreign languages at high school (English, French and German); I then studied some Spanish in college (and Old English =) ). I'm studying languages to this day, on my own, like a hobby - Finnish (part of my ethnic roots), Danish (just because) and lately Polish (I want to read one of my favourite writers in the original one day) =) I agree that all cultures are important. Sadly, I've encountered situations online (not here maybe) when people started to treat me differently after they found out I'm Russian. I guess it's partly because of how Russia and Russians are (mis)represented in popular Western media (mafia, 'KGB', etc). Here's a funny story: at first Valve was reluctant to launch Steam in Russia because of the 'piracy' stereotype (like, they thought nobody was going to buy anything). Now we are one of the largest Steam markets!

My wife, an OB nurse, can attest to that fact...both first hand and in the countless deliveries she's been part of over the years.  And some are much, much slower than others.

We had 3 languages in the middle school already at age 9-10 we learned German,Polish and Russian, French and English was added in High school but you have to choice just one of them  , I may learn about Andrei Bely just not remember much from it was 35 years ago but we learned about the majority knowing poets , my first Russian song I sing on the academy show was ( пусть всегда будет солнце) in 1975 .. I was 5 years old , I had always language skills like a parrot , since I did not know what the words means when I was 5 until age of 10 when I learned the language in school .. I was never interested too much in politics , people are not different in different countries just the government . I meet and spend time with people from over 25 countries .. judge by the heart not by the stereotypes .

My 20 years older  brother study in Moscaw University back in the 70s ..

I only meant that at the point of birth, there you are...in the middle nowhere. I know childbirth itself is not a poof kind of thing.  Although, for some it seems to be...which makes other mothers jealous I suppose.  I may be a guy, but I do understand a thing or two.  wink

Now that we're talkin', hey Cath, any chance that we might get clothes inspired by Ivan Bilibin's illustrations of Vasilisa the Beautiful and Ivan Tsarevich? I'm just sayin', his Russian folklore illustrations are gorgeous... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Bilibin

    Danish, huh?

So if I start off with: 'Hvordan har du det?' we can start a convo?  ;)

As for Finnish, I thought you had to be born there to comprehend that stuff... I mean take away the vowels and you have nothing left.

Shiriki, I am posting on the board while running a game in the background and creating graphics for said game... I think that's enough of a multitask for an old dog like myself.

Hej! Godt, tak! Hvad med dig? Then I could talk about pets, food and clothing a bit =) I only started this year, so no politics yet LOL

Finnish is worst when it comes to actual spoken language... the murteet (dialects). Navigating through those takes actual living there, I believe.

Well, I don't know if "normal" schools would include Bely in the major known list... We had that very dedicated teacher who taught college-level lit in high school, basically. Cost me a lot of sleepless nights, but that was worth it in the end.

So just in case you some time feel like checking out Russian "Silver Century" poetry, you could try his stuff =)

Why specifically these two, could I ask?

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,252

..Omsk partly because it was mentioned in my all time favourite film, Dr. Strangelove, and would also like to take the river cruise to Tobolsk.  As to Irkutsk, I always wanted to see lake Bikal (deepest lake in the world).

Of course this trip would be done during summer.

  • Mustakettu85Mustakettu85 Posts: 2,933

Thanks for explaining, KK. You should hurry before Baikal dries out or becomes too polluted =)

Whaddaya meeeeaaaan, the eastern dialects are so easy! You speak it like it is written1: it is written like "venesatama"2 and pronounced like "puattipoukama"3.

1 Yes this is the joke, since Finnish is actually spoken like it is written, but eastern dialects have unique expressions (well, pretty much like all dialects do) that make it easy to write jokes like this.

2 "Boat dock" (specifically for small boats)

3 The same as 2, except substitute both words for most obstinate choices in language and dialect you know the best.
