...yeah seems around the baord, software "upgrades" are causing some of us grief.  Upgraded to FF ver 29 the other day, and this morning found all my saved passwords were wiped out. A total pain as I am dyslexic and have trouble remembering cryptic things like that. Now I have to go through password recovery/change each bleedin' time I log onto a site. For those which ask for the previous password when changing it, I have to email site admin to get a temp password to login and setup a new one.so it can be saved again.

Updates should enhance, not detract from the user experience.

You should definitely look into using a password manager.  No more typing, except for the secure password to get into the application.  There are a few good ones out there.  I understand that Norton's Identiy Safe is free...and it just got an update.  It stores your passwords encrypted on your hard drive.  And now they have a password generator online.  Tell it how many characters, how many digits, how many non-alphanumeric characters, then go...then you can copy and paste it into the new password box at the site, and let Identity Safe remember it.  You can tell it how many passwords to generate, too, if you're updating a few sites at a time.  Strong passwords, no typos!  wink    And you can export your username/password sets to another computer that uses Identity Safe, so you can have your list on the laptop and desktop.  (And to an excel file or comma delimited I think.)  Nice option for making a backup.

They say the best things in life are free(bies) and it looks like someone agrees with me ;-). Look at the closing image featured at DAZ's Iray presentation for NVIDIA at SIGGRAPH this weekend. The 80's love is everwhere! LOL

Congratulations getting your art on the big screen there!

Nice going for you both, congrats.

  • Note:  There is a new driver available today for nVidia GPUs.  Don't know if it fixes anything for rendering or Windows 10, but it's out there in Windows Update at least.

I don't intend to take nVidia or Microsoft's word for it until Adobe, DAZ, SmithMicro and Autodesk support Win10 directly.

I don't know but the last official Nvidia driver from the website is

    Version: 353.62  WHQL
    Release Date: 2015.7.29
    Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit , 8.1, 8, 7
    Language: English (US)
    File Size: 281.27 MB

Don't update the driver provided by Win10 update , it will get in conflict with the original driver and later you run into conflict , never update the driver choice always clean installation to avoid conflict and kernel32dll issues

That is, partly, what I do no understand - how or why is the driver supplied by nVidia any different to the one installed/updated by Win 10?  The idea that the OS can decide that your choice of manually altering (upgrade or downgrade) a driver is 'invalid' and over-ride you is, IMHO, horrid.  That is my understanding of what is happening, so I may well be wrong and believe me, I want to be.  But I am still waiting for the upgrade to some through.

I don't know , Nvidia recomended to instal the driver manually ..from own website so maybe something there was corrupted . From my experiences installing clean driver instalation will avoid future issues it was loud about that not so long ago, this have something to do with the system again .. tested Nvidia last driver and working without issues on win8.1 pro so it may be win10 system related as they just don't work yet smooth together the way it should..  well good luck

  • Congrats! :-)

  • Kernel32.dll?

I'm not claiming that you're wrong, Mec; but aren't we all on a 64 bit version of Windows by now?  I would think that there would be no x32.dll executable to deal with.  surprise  Maybe I'm wrong and that module was carried forth for compatibility?

In any case, I understand that Mec's whole business is dependent on throughput and system reliability.  When you can't render, you can't eat.  I get that, and I'm not suggesting that anybody who's dinner comes from this work should upgrade before the wine and cheese have both properly aged.  And when you do upgrade (even if you're not a "pro"), you approach it methodically and you use good system methodologies (backups, changing only one thing at a time to the best extent possible, etc.).

Everybody here is an artist (some like me to a lesser extent than others), but everybody here should ALSO consider themselves an IT person.  Congratulations, I just promoted the whole lot of you to IT!  wink  Now you all have more responsibilities and not more pay; just like the big corporate world that some of you may have sworn off!  surpriselaugh

All joking aside, it's true.  Good for Mec that her carefulness got her back to a workable state.  smiley

And that is what counts ! finally runung business again , in this negative 12 weeks I found positive thing, got rid of all unwanded softwares, cleaned up the drivers and running like on new PC again, so a good thing , it was already over due :)

regarding the kernel, Kernel32.dll in system32 contains 64-bit binaries, while in syswow64 contains 32-bit binaries it was always called this way no matter the system version. We still runing programs for both system and kernel32.dll handle the program memory

If I don't know I would say mybe or  not talk about at all lol

That's precisely it...there are way too many programs that are still 32 bit.

M$ never changed the name to Kernel64.dll  , they use the same name but the content is different in both versions

The kernel32.dll in the 32 bit folder is compiled as a 32 bit program.  The one in the 64 bit folder should be the same, but just compiled as 32 bit capable 64 bit program...hence the differences in size and checksums. (I say should, because with MS you never know, for sure.)

It is actually reversed system32 contains 64-bit binaries, while in syswow64 contains 32-bit binaries , both kernels are different just have the same name  , nothing will surprise me anymore

I've lost track at how MS has divided it all up...I'm just glad it can find what it needs, most of the time...

  • In addition to the Kernel32.dll, my Windows 10 Pro system also has a kernelbase, kernelappcore, and a kernelceip; all are DLLs.  Interesting.

...kind of like the desktop Icon on my system labelled "Daz 4.6" which actually opens 4.8.

I do see a new Cuda drive for the Mac is out as of a few days ago, so that's good to know.

So switching gears to the earlier free stuff..I'm using the Girls Just Wanna Have fun outfit and with the pose used, the skirt has flown up in places, in a rather unmodest way. I find I can't use the rotation controls on the outfit in the skirt area without it messing up the leggings. Has anyone used d-formers on it to bend it around a bit? (I'm really bad at using them but if folks have had success, I might give it a try.)
