Help! Suddenly Can't Select Body Parts

JoeQuickJoeQuick Posts: 1,721

I can no longer select individual body parts in daz studio with either the little arrow tool or the translate tool.  Use of either tool results in the selection of the full figure, this is true of both 2nd and 3rd Generation genesis figures (I have not tried others).  I can still select individual body parts with the bone selection tool.

This problem feels vaguely familiar, and seemed to begin after I resaved a product I had been working on to the library.

However I have since deleted that product and have uninstalled and reinstalled Studio (but not my content library) and the problem maintains.

I will do a complete purge shortly, but figured I'd ask if anyone else has encountered this and solved this before I go nuclear.

I might suggest you do a re-install of the DAZ Studio version you are using.

If you left click on a part with the selction tool (arrow), and then right click the same part using the selection (arrow) tool, what do you get?

Check Tool Settings, under Node Selection. I suspect it has been switched to Root Node Only.

In the Scene pane, it is possible to toggle one or more nodes so that you can't select them; if this is the case, you will have a little X after the arrow instead of a checkmark after the arrow (see screenshot.)  In this example, I can no longer select the hip by clicking on it, however I can still select the entire figure or other nodes.  I'm guessing this is not the issue because you said you tried several figures, but it's worth checking just in case.

(I assume you have already verified you didn't accidentally change to using a different tool.)

Richard for the win! (as per usual).

    Thank you.

  • I'm adding a stupidly simple one that got me. I was experiencing the exact same thing, and looked in this forum. While trying to reset the tool settings mentioned here I noticed Animate 2 was selected not scene navigator. Definitely a "duh" moment, but figured I'd add it.

  • In 2 scenes I cannot select individual nodes. Check to see if the root node only was selected and it wasn't. Changed the layout several times. Did a reset. What other means can someone accidentally screw something like this up and reverse it.

  • If you look in the Scene pane, with the figure expanded (with it selected right-click in the pane>Expand>Expand from Selected) there should be an arrow icon next to the eye icon for each bone - does it have a cross or a tick on it? If it's a cross, select all the bones (click on the first, shift-click on the last) and in the Parametrs pane enable Selectable.

thanks a lot, drove me crazy :-)

  • I had this issue and I discovered that I had tried to import a piece of clothing the wrong way and I affected the morphing of the character which subsequently made it impossible to select any of the models various parts.  I opened other files and it worked fine.  I know this may not be the case for everyone but definitely was for me.  It took me a while to think back over all I had done because I had worked with it for a while.

Also, I am not sure if its just me, but the images that are here are not selectable and are so tiny they are of no use.

  • Hi there, hope someone can help with this old topic. I tried both Node and Root Node First to see if I could select the nodes. It allowed me select the nodes, but i cannot change / control anything, like I cannot rotate an arm that is selected. Can someone see what's happening here?  Attaching screenshot. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
