Folder contents in alphabetical order

How get I my Folder contents in alphabetical order using DS4.9

In older versions the function "refresh" helped alone to solve as a problem, but unfortunately it does not work under DS4.9 and I found no alternate function..

    Which section is this in?

Well from the refresh you probably mean in DAZ Studio and it's under the tab Content Library -> Products

...but Windows does refresh too and I'm not sure if that's still default behavior. My Windows 10 doesn't seem to refresh by default anymore, I have to do something in the stale Explorer window to get it to refresh.

If you mean Windows Explorer -> it's in that those columns label Name, Data, Size, ... and you click on the column Name to sort Alphabetically or reverse alphabetically

If os X right click and sort by Name or in xterm/cmdtool ls or ls -r (for reverse alphanumeric order)

The function refresh i find in every folder, not only under Product.

To search something under products makes less sence because it is to unorganized to find the wanted file.

For excample: I store different scene subsets under a special path, what I had defined under preferences.

I named the subsets by a code, what allows me to recognize the individual subset by it.

But it is useless, because I have to scroll now the hole directory to find the correct subset, because the content is mixedup.

I had used DS4.6 without that mixedup....

It is not an windows explorer problem!

It appears in every subfolder of DS4.9 without any known solution

Is this in Content Library > Daz Studio Formats, or Content Library > Categories?

Sorry, I gave you the only alphanumeric listing of install products, DAZ or Poser format, at the location that I know that they are listing alphanumerically and not via some other categorization methods used over the years such as People or Figures which is really the same thing and now I see phoenomes listed as Poses and not Morphs and it's a moving target. One day, after DAZ finishes the Content Manager I will clean up my install somewhat to be less confusing where everything is but until then well I just look in Content Manager, Products, Smart Content, and then Categories. Lucky I know were most of what I use is.

I think you should double check your Poser Products Format, DAZ Products Format, and the new DAZ Content Manager directory locations and make sure they are still correct after your update. I had to correct mine. Easpecially after installing the Public Build Beta for the 1st time. Also you should check to see if the DIM program file system location configurations is still correct.

  • I mean the content under DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats.
I used both folders and content alphabetized, that I got sorted again with the function “refresh”, once they were messed up.
Now I can refresh as I want, chaos remains as it was arranged at random by the program and each time in a new order!

Can you go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the Daz Studio Formats and Poser Formats, and post a screenshot?

  • No Problem...

but what do you want to find out with that?

I was wondering if there were nested content folders which were confusing things, as some of ther folders listed in your first screenshot looked incorrect (e.g. Geometries displaying in a DS-format content folder), but that doesn't seem to be the case.

  • The problem occurred immediately after the DS4.9 update. Before I could easily organize my folders and files alphabetically.
I had not installed any third-party products meanwhile. They are therefore excluded as a cause.

I have found that depending on OS and whether or not the items are on other drives than the 'main'/OS drive it can be very difficult to impossible to get them to list alphabetically.

  • But why? It makes no sence... with 4.8 it had worked all well

I've had this problem since moving from 4.7 to 4.8...

I run Linux and use Studio in WINE and it has been this way since moving to 4.8.  Only content folders on the same drive as the program is installed on are alphabetical.

Hmmm...looking at my People Folder & your People Folder yours seems clear is listed by date with most recent at top & mine is Alphanumeric.

Have you navigated in Explorer to those two folders and had Explorer list the contents by date? Because Windows Explorer has saved sort preferences for individual folders for a long time. Maybe DAZ Studio is using that Windows Explorer folder configuration file to determine it's sort preference because I can't find a way in DAZ Studio Public Build Beta 4.9.1.27 to change my sort for the way it is now (alphanumeric).

i just tried sorting a couple of my DAZ content folder by data but in DAZ they stay sorted alphanumerically.

  • no, I am sorry.

I have checked the listing order for my Explorer and it is standard on sorted by Name. All Files and Subfolder automatical appears in alphanumerical listings. Even I added new folder with mixed name the will appaer onthe next view alphanumerical.

The only fact that bother me is, that the DAZ installation folder are still alphanumerical, as I rechecked..

I have exactly the same problem.  Used to work fine but now it won't sort them alphabetically. So annoying trying to find anything in a very long list.

  • It seams so, that there is no hope to get help ....

  • Damn. I was hoping to find a workaround. Maybe somebody will come up with a solution soon

Not sure what's going on wth you all. My Content tab has always been sorted alphabetically. Folders and sub folders from Studio 4.5 on.

It's one of those affects some, but not most things...
