whats causing my render so long

in Technical Help (nuts n bolts)

i been sitting at over an hour with my render wiht i13 laundry mat and four characters and hdri  on with victoria arribella amadalia and a g3 female running with a 980 ti running what would cause it to take over an hour to render at 7 percent

    It's probably the trans maps on the hair. It could also be render setting if set wrong. Are you rendering in Iray or 3Delight?

    Is it actually using the GPU? That's quite a busy scene - especially if the characters have clothes and hair.

    its using up 908  percent ram and cpu at the time and i am runing 24 gigs of ram and running a 3.4 gig quad core i7

    First guess, you've got too much in the scene for the GPU memory to hadle and it's kicked over to cpu rendering.

    If you mean you've used 90% of your physical ram, at 24gb, then i'd say you are way over the GPU's memory, unless you have a titan with 12gb of ram on it.

    The other thing to be aware of is that iray doesn't show the percentage of render linerarly, meaning that it may sit at 0% for some time, then jump to a higher percentage for some time, then sit at 99% for the remainder.
