Questions about Duplicate IDs

I'm aware of the script to fix duplicate IDs: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/740/daz-studio-4-5-fix-duplicate-ids-script/p1

I have yet to run, it though, because I'd first like to know a little more about:

  1. What causes Duplicate IDs?
  2. What, exactly, does the script do to "fix" them?

    Duplicate IDs were a result of DS 4.5 being stricter than thee arlier versions, so it was possible for (typically) the figure and the geometry to have the same ID - the script reads the user file and the asset file (both .dsf) and renames the geometry (as I recall) to make the IDs different. If you are hitting Duplicate warnings are you sure it is IDs and not Formulas?

    Yes, the error message clearly states Duplicate IDs.

    Is this an older piece of content? Most items should have been updated (which is what I wrote the script for, I was not really expecting it to be something end-uers would do).

    I get Duplicate ID errors with older content I didn't buy at daz, I lot of g2f stuff at renderosity gives me  it as well . But i haven't have any trouble with any of the new daz content giving me ID errors
