How do I backup products installed using InstallManager to External Drive?

Long time ago there wasn't an install manager. You just downloaded the product which came with a DAZ installer. So you could just backup the daz installer for that product into an external drive or whatever.   Now in 4.9 and 4.x but i got 4.9 now...now, i install using Install Manager and sure it installs my products into DAZ but i don't know where the actual product files( ZIP or whatever they are ) are so i can shove them to my external drive for backup.

And even so, even if i knew where those zip files are kept. I don't know how to(if need to reinstall) reinstall those products from the zip files   as I no longer have Poser 6 like i used to....and also the zip files probably contain DAZ format files now and not Poser format files.

The default download folder is \DAZ 3D\Install Manager\Downloads (as I recall, I have chnaged mine so not certain of that). Just back up the zips, and optionally but not essentially the accompanyying .dsx files, assuming you have set DIM to delete them after isntalling. To restore a backup just copy the zip and the .dsx if you kept it to the Downloads folder.

I'm still working on breaking the manacles keeping me chained to the forum.

A follow-up question or two, if you will.

Do I need to keep those ZIP files on my computer? Or may I simply back them up on an external HD, delete them from my computer to save disk space, and then use them from my external HD only when necessary?

Once you install them you don't need to keep them on your computer.

Once the item is installed you don't need them - if it isn't installed then the zip does need to be there for updates to be detected. DIM will look to only one folder for installable zips, but you can switch which folder it is looking at.

  • Thank you. This was helpful advice!

Well some of you say I don't need them once installed. but what if i don't have internet in the future to redownload my products.  Anyways installed DAZ4.9 along with some of my products,  look in Windows 10 Documents/DAZ3D/Studio/My LIbrary   and there's nothing in it so i can shove to my external drive for backup.

Where is this \DAZ 3D\Install Manager\Downloads  directory you talked about?

Sorry, the default folder is in the Public or Shared Documents folder. depending on operating system.
