Reformating Computer and Copying Assets Back from External?

It's beem a few years since I did a reformat, and now windows has finally given up with frequent crashes. So, I'm about to do a fresh intall of windows after I refromat my disk. My question is that is it possible that I can copy all of my assests back into the appropriate directories after I install windows, and will it show up in smart content, or do I have to redownload and install everything from scratch?

  • Yes, but I would first use anti malware software, clean your registry, and uninstall any programs you don't use and defrag your hard drive. If this does not stop crashes, then I would buy a new Hard drive and reinstall everything fresh. I would also use some compresse air or a vacume to clean out the dust bunnies and a dry old paint brush to remove all the fuzzies out of your PC. Keep the old Hard drive in case something happens to the new one that way you can still install old hard drive and everything is still there. I would suggest you first find out if your problem is hardware. Sometimes Memory or Hard drive corruption is the causes of crashes sometimes it is heat cause by a dirty PC interior and poor airflow.

You need to back up your database - in Studio, from either the content tab option menu or the smart content tab option menu select Content DB Maintenance and then Export Userdata. This will create one or more Userdata_x.dsx files in the Runtime/Support directory of your first Studio format directory. Copy/save these.

If you install with DIM you also want to copy the C:/Users/Public/Public Documents/DAZ 3D/InstallManager directory.- that's where DIM tracks the items you've installed.
