Daz Studio on Mac Unable to Read Installed Content

I’m a longtime Poser user I’ve finally committed myself to switching to Daz Studio, but after two days of trying to get it up and running, I’m pulling my hair out and at a loss for what I need to do different or what I’ve done or am doing wrong. I installed the latest version of DS though the Install Manager along with the starter essentials content, letting it place everything in the default locations with no intervention on my part.
I’m on a Mac (10.11.6), so that placed everything at /Users/Shared/My DAZ 3D Library/ on my main drive which from everything Ive read is correct and just as expected. Upon launching DS, logging into my account ,etc., I navigate to the content tab and choose say Genesis 3 Female and immediately get a “Could not open file: People/Genesis 3 Female/Genesis 3 Female.duf File does not exist” error. This is all well and good, but when I navigate to that exact location, the file is indeed sitting there.
I’ve seen several posts here and elsewhere with this error, but no solutions or at least none that seem to work for me. I’ve double checked paths in DS and they point to the aforementioned My DAZ 3D Library, so no issues there. To further add insult to injury, when I drag the file DS says doesn’t exist into the program, it imports and loads up just fine, so obviously the .duf file is fine and the location is readable.
With all of this said, what are my options to fix this? I’ve uninstalled DS and all of it’s related content and done a fresh installation. Twice. And no luck. Prior to realizing I had a library issue, I had a CMS issue, but thankfully I was able to get that resolved by changing the port number as suggested in a couple of posts here, so if I can overcome this roadblock, Ill be back in business or so I hope!

From which folder in the Content Library pane are you loading? Is the item showing under Figures in the Smart Content Pane in the Files tab?
The content shows up both in Smart Content and in the Content Library panes and I get them same 'does not exist' when loading from either location. In the Smart Content pane, it does appear under figures and in the Content Library pane it's under people. I also tried moving the library to another location and then choosing it through the Content Directory Manger, but no dice, got the same error when attmpting to load a figure, which is this case of trying to get it working are just the base Genisis figures.
I'm using Daz Studio 4.9.x on latest Os X El Capitan. Installation from scratch, no modification. I installed Daz a long time ago, maybe it's new bug when it's installed now, but I think more people would have complained.
I need to know more to understand:
First,
why did you need to change the default port number ? Do you use somekind of firewall/antivirus on Os X ? (beside the default firewall of Os X). For example a software preventing applications to access files ?
Did you previously installed Postgresql for professional web/software work ?
Second,
it reads like you have the content installed by DIM all right, but the daz database looking them somewhere else.
Did you install the software without messing or changing stuff ? on a normal Os X installation with no tweaks or weird security ?
Do you install and launch Dim and Daz Studio from an user account with administrator right ?
If you enabled the default Os X firewall, when launching Daz Studio, it may ask you if you authorize Daz to connect to ports and internet, click yes.
Third,
Daz Connect:
Your content is not only in /Users/Shared/My DAZ 3D Library anymore. Then can also be in the Daz Connect folder. Daz Connect is the new mechanism to obtain and install content.
The default folder for the content installed by Daz Connect is : /Users/YOUR_USERNAME/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Daz Connect Library (replace YOUR_USERNAME by your username of course)
You should have that folder for Daz Connect configured in the Content Directory Manager of DAZ. (you can see that in daz, Preferences / Content Library and then the button Content Directory Manager.
Four,
can you launch Terminal (in the /Applications/Utilitaries folder or Terminal in spotlight) and type the command:
cd "/Users/Shared/My DAZ 3D Library"
(press enter and then the command)
ls
(press enter)
you should see a listing of the folders inside the Daz 3D Library of contents
The same with "/Users/YOUR_USERNAME/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Daz Connect Library" (replace YOUR_USERNAME by your username of course)
Finder or Terminal is the same in truth, but by typing commands in Terminal, I'm sure you go inside the real location I intend, not an external or second drive or whatever of your mac.
Thanks for the reply and all the detail incite - I gave your suggestions a go and/or answered your questions below:
This was was a suggestion I found when I was getting an error saying "A valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established." I beleive the default was 1024 and the suggestion was to change it to 1800 which immediately worked. I do have a VPN for work, but turned it off after getting the connection errors, though it didn’t make a difference one way or the other. And no, no other firewalls or other security applications/utilities running or installed. Also no on installing Postgresql - my assumption is that it was installed as part of the DS installer.
Correct, I just let it roll as it comes right out of the box with no manual changes to anything - my assumptions were that the installer would do what it needed to do. And no, just a normal OS X installation on a 15" Retina Mid-2014 MacBook Pro - no hacks or cracks or anything funky going on :)
Yep, it's my Mac and I'm the only user as an admin with full rights and control.
Nope, the OS X firewall isn’t running and I’ve never used it.
Yes, I do have this folder.
What's in here isn’t as straight forward as what is in the My DAZ 3D Library folder - this one has data/cloud/ ...random numbered folders with runtime elements in it <— is this normal?
I just changed this from the location in shared to the one in documents, though it didn’t appear to make a difference.
This is what I get after running the command:

Jacobs-MacBook-Pro:~ JCD$ cd "/Users/Shared/My DAZ 3D Library"
Jacobs-MacBook-Pro:My DAZ 3D Library JCD$ ls

Here’s what I get on this one which is odd as it’s saying ‘DAZ' doesn't exist at /Users/JCD/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Daz Connect Library despite my query of 'DAZ 3D' which does exist at that location:
Last login: Sun Aug 7 09:34:30 on ttys000

-bash: cd: “/Users/JCD/Documents/DAZ: No such file or directory
