Mouse-over annoying me

Okay, I know I've seen a solution, but I don't recall how to get rid of the irritating orange/yellow toning when I pass the mouse over something. I know it can be changed to a boundary box, but how do I do it, please?

Double-check that I'm talking about the right thing, but I think:

Window > Panes > Draw Settings, under General set "Draw Style" to "Bounding Box Only"

    @sriesch

I don't think that's it. The "Bounding Box" setting changes the object view to just the brackets around the object. You can't seee the shape or texture. Not sure of the setting do do what the OP wants.

The only thing I have found that works is to make the offending item "non-selectable" in the Scene tab. In other words, next to the item as listed in the scene tab, you will see two symbols; The first is an Eye.... clicking on that turns the item invisible / visible. The second one looks like an Arrow with a Checkmark next to it... clicking that turns on/off selectablity (the checkmark becomes a X)..... Items that have selectability turned off won't cause the orange mouse-over effect.

That's bounding box preview - bounding box highlighting in the Draw Settings pane will control the mouse-over behaviour using node selection tools. The Surface Seelction tool does always use the area highlight, you can adjust the highight colour in Window>Style>Customise Style but not - as far as I know - switch it to use only the surface boundary.

Although, as noted above, this isn't necessary tot ame the node highlighting you can, should you need to, make multiple items unselectable at once by selecting them all and using the Selectable button in the Parameters pane.

@MJW - yes as sriesch said, change Bounding Box + Surface to Bounding Box only.

Then, use the next dial, Active Opacity, to adjust the boldness/ strength of the outline to your liking. I set mine to 60%. I also set Edge length to 100% because the full box look just makes more sense to me.

You can actually turn off bounding box totally with active opacity = 0, or edge length =0 !

If you don't like the egg yolk yellow for the bounding box you can change it too - in Custom Style > Accent > 1st color. (which will also change your global interface highlight color including library selected and timeline scrubber etc) I set mine to lemon yellow.

The bounding box + surface thing with high active opacity, also drove me nuts - even in other Daz users videos!

Especially those video instructors who like to mouse over everything for no reason! I suspect the crazy busy jumpy yellow blinkiness scared away a lot of potential users! cheeky

That said GUI customization at this level is what I love most about using DS...and I appreciate the dev's thoughtfulness in this area! laugh

make multiple items unselectable at once by selecting them all and using the Selectable button in the Parameters pane.

That's a good tip... Why isn't it enabled in scene manager, or right click context, or pane upper corner drop down, it's a mystery lol!

An aside, is there a turn selected multiple items visibility on off too, or is grouping the only workaround?

Multi-selection should work for any settings in the Parameters pane (or derived panes like Posing and Shaping).

Thanks folks. I apologise for the dealy in returning to this question, but I don't get notifications of updates. It is indeed the draw settings solution.

    Well done.

    Cool....thanks the ever-informative Rich...

Before I forget, and somewhat remotely related lol, I only recently discovered it's possible to fine-tune all the Transform tools etc in the Tool Settings tab. Is there a way to increase the absolute size of Universal Manipulator tool that's hidden somewhere?

Me the UI customization freak would blindly hope anyway...

  • I'm not aware of a way to specify the size of the viewport widgets, you could make a feature request for that.

Ok, thanks...another wish list for DS 5.0....

sriesch answer : "Window > Panes > Draw Settings, under General set "Draw Style" to "Bounding Box Only"

is the proper solution to the original post.
