my first Octane / Carrara demo reel

Hello Fellow Carrara-niks,

Your advisement is welcome regarding my first full Octane / Carrara Demo Reel, at
http://www.protovu.com/ .
I am aware of a few focus issues ( actually sort of like them), and please know that this is all done with the Direct Lighting option of Octane.
I will be getting into Path and PMC going forward, as time allows ( these are more accurate lighting options).

Particle effects were done with Pycloid, Fountains, and Blender (obj export). I will probably be looking more to Blender for this sort of thing, as Carrara Particle Emitters do not

work with Octane.
Any other ideas on particles?

Thank you for taking a look, and thank you to Simon and Octane for allowing Carrara to let us get to another level,
Rick

Beautiful work! Great job on the animations too!

Hmmm... why don't Carrara particles work in Octane? That's odd.

Have you considered using particles in a compositing tool, like Fusion and/or HitFlim, etc.,?

\Not sure if those would give you what you need - I haven't tried them yet.

    Wow... beautiful presentation!

Superb work, some of the realism is astounding!  Actually I thought that particles did work but only with the objects option, but given you can make objects what you like, it is not too much of a limitation (except perhaps for the metaball option which would be cool). You could always render those in Carrara and overlay.

beautiful work, and the rest of your site is first-class. You do Carrara and your 3D artform great justice!

I aspire to this mastery, and am inspired to make my Carrara software do such things - :)

    bravo!

Superb work Protovu,. really nice animation and texturing,. I especially liked the attention to the syringe and air bubble, nice detail

the only slight glitch I can see is at 60secs there are some sphere's which are stationary when everything else has a really nice " suspended in fluids" motion

Thank you, Dartanbeck! So very much appreciated. Particles in Octane:  Simon, our keeper of the Octane connection at Otoy, says there is something regarding the API that prevents him from making particles work with Octane. Kind of a drag.

Thank you! And yes, there are quite a few glitches. This is the hobgoblin of 3D for me........when to stop.  Our attention to detail is so beyond the normal threshold....I did let a few things slide. Just figured it was time to get something out there.

Thank you, Phil! And thank you again for other advisements per Octane.

I have used metaballs with Octane. They can fake particles somewhat, but now that we have Octane, to me, a robust particle system, one with Blender capabilities would really allow for some terrific experimentation. Like Molecular for Blender......some very cool stuff with that.

    No worries!!! :)

If you want to get pinged for any particular thread (in this version of our ever-changing forum formats), you need to click the little star at the top right of the thread - or the star when you see the thread link in the main Carrara discussion forum.

If it's yellow, you'll get an e-mail if someone replies, but you generally won't get a whole bunch of them if several people reply fairly close in time - just one.

Yes, and believe it or not I had the star selected. Made a point of doing so, but for some reason my ping, or not ping is intermittent..

I really wish the star would "auto-click" when you post to a thread, been caught out more than once with that.
