Efficient rendering for 2D artists?

I'm a 2D artist and I'm using Daz Studio as reference, and I want to ask.
What's the best way to render high quality images with accurate lightning and shadows without sacrificing time (such as with Iray). I don't need super high quality photoreal renders, I mostly need accurate shadoes and lightning
I'm facing quite a few problems with the current renderer, for example the lack of cast shadow on the figure. For example my figure's arms are in front of the body and thus the cast shadow of his arms should be casted to his body. But neither with 3Delight or OpenGL can I achieve that
Is there any alternative renderers out there you would recommend that can render very fast (not 40 minutes fast but <5 minutes fast), but produces high quality images?

You can do something basic and relatively high quality, as long as you don't equate photo-real with high quality, using 3Delight and do it quickly... but you are going to have to spend some time learning the basics of the engine and the lights that are available.
When you say "current renderer" what do you mean? Is it 3Delight or Iray?
Some specific examples of what you are encountering and how you have things setup will go a long way towards getting you the advice you need.
I meant 3Delight and OpenGL
It seems I solved the cast shadow problem when using Deep Shadow Map as an option in the Distant Light settings
Is there any manual where I can learn more about Daz Lightning and 3Delight rendering? I want to be able to understand and control the render more
There are a plethora of tutorials available, the manual is not going to help a lot.
I recommend Ray Traced shadows over Deep Shadow Maps.
I recommend a Google search for 3delight lighting tutorials for daz studio
Yes, just use ray traced shadows in 3DL and you will be fine, keep antialiasing settings low and it will render fast also.
