Though the method of getting the line drawing is a Poser-Only trick, the second Poser video above shows this technique

Here are some tests using my (outline) renders and the software "Rebelle" to give a kind of quick watercolor effect on these black and white pictures :

  • I have Comic Life 3 and can't find a filter called trace bitmap. Is this something from an earlier version or am I just not looking in the right place?

The "Trace Bitmap" tool isn't in Comic Life but in Inkscape.

  • I was going by this line from an earlier post where you said you did not use Inkscape, only filters in Comic Life.

If you use Comic Life filters you don't (necessary) need to use filters in Inkscape... Simply use "Trace bitmap" ! (For this picture above I didn't use any filter in Inkscape !)

Now I'm confused. So what filter are you using in comic life that works so good for you?

"Trace bitmap" and "filters" are two different things in inkscape...

    "Rotoscope" is great for me.

I just have bought Clip Studio Paint (= ex Manga Studio !) ! Actually 60% discount...

Thanks to it I don't need 2 Daz files anymore to add colors to my line art renders. Because I can fill them with any colors without "white artefacts" around my black outlines within Clip Studio Paint. And the best is that we can fill zones even if there are gaps in line drawing. CSP detects and fills them automatically !!!

The best mix of 3 fantastic softwares : Daz Studio (for 2D renders) -> Comic Life (for Outlines + Manga Effect on these renders) -> Clip Studio Paint (for final Manga Creation) !!!

With the powerful last one you add all you need to make Manga ! Beause of the way you easily can add balloons, texts, panels, an infinity of incredible effects, draw movement lines, draw backgrounds or anything else and so on... (Sure you can use included balloons and panels but you can draw them too... with any shape you want. Crazy !!!)

  • 6R, very nice. Did you find a useful filter in Clip Studio Paint, or are you using its tools to enhance the images?

    Thanks a lot...

No, it isn't a filter but just the Airbrush tool. I have used this technics from this great tutorial : https://youtu.be/VQdDUBioirQ !

I don't use any selected area to "paint" faster the lights and the shadows on my flat colors. I use a brush (Highlight -> Color Dodge) for the lights and another brush (Highlight -> Color Burn) for the shadows.

    Tips :

    * Once you have made your flat color layer, duplicate it to add lights and shadows on another layer. So you will keep your flat layer for other projects.

    * It's impossible to use this Highlight trick on White ! So, use the soft airbrush to add a little bit grey color (= shadows) on white areas.

Here are some very colorful characters for 2D games ! Once "painted" in CSP I can export them in any size with a good quality.

At start the various Line Art renders I paint are 800 x 800 pixels ! I export them at 128, 96 and 64 here :

    Thanks a lot...

Here are some (2D look) samples where I easily can change colors (2 clicks) without modifying the shadow and light colors (in other layers)... depending on the colors below though :
