Older textures look washed out when using HDRI in IRAY...

There is an older set I decided would be perfect for a project I'm working on.  The set loads fine and renders great with one exception.  The color maps look muted and a bit dull when using HDRI lighting.  I've applied the IRAY Base shader that comes with DSPRO 4.9, but would like to avoid hours of trial and error rendering in order to figure out what exactly I'm doing.  I'm hoping that somehere will have some suggestions on IRAY settings that would allow the colors to stand out a bit more.  I am new to working with IRAY settings and would appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks!

I think we need a visual on this to see what is going on.  My guess would be that the scene is over light somehow but will need to see what is going on. It could be anything from the way the lighting is to surface settings.

Have you switched off the automatic headlamp in the renderer's General tab (to Never)?

    Ditto on providing some examples.

You mention the loss of brilliance with HDRI. Does this means that you have specifically tried the scene with other kinds of lighting, and the colors are more normal? If so, examples of HDRI and "other" lighting would be useful.

To take a stab in the dark, Iray (especially with HDRI) expects a certain gamma workflow of textures. D|S tries to compensate when using texture files with unknown gamma settings, but on older sets, some of which may have been designed for Poser rather than D|S, you never know what you're getting.

I find that a lot of older content uses the ambient channel to boost colors, which doesn't translate to Iray's emissive channel all that well at times. You could try converting it to Iray Uber to directly see what's going on with your materials?
