Editing metadata and DIM and Smart Content

I want to redo my Metadata (and make some Metadata for items without it)  So smart content will work the way I want it to work. I am unhappy with the way it is currently organized.  I was wondering two questions.  If I change the MetaData will any DIM updates mess that work up?  Is there a way to back up my MetaData changes so that I have it backed up and also if DIM updates break it I can fix it?

    Are you talking about making new categories, or changing things like compatibility bases?  Your custom categories will be preserved even if the vendor-supplied metadata is updated.

    Categories are what I want to change.  Not compatibility bases.   I want to rearrange smart content.  Oh if they have no compatibility bases aka no meta data then I will work on that.

    Custom categories are saved (I prefer to create them outside of Default and leave Default only for vendor-provided metadata).

    We could really use a new tool for working on metadata inside Daz studio. It is like pulling teeth working on custom metadata in Daz studio and this should be something Daz pushes that Poser does not. I would like to see a seperate area for User based Smart Content that you yourself create and are able to export easily. Just leave the Daz created ones alone and have a seperate area so users can customize to their hearts content.
