TerraDome3 in the dark

Is there any way to get the scene to be lighter while working? It is really hard to see what I am doing. It woud be nice to get it closer to the render.
How do I render fastest? With render times like I am getting, would it be safe to say that animating these scenes is going to be painfully slow?
And how to I get rid of that yellow line?

Ctrl(Win)/cmd(Mac)-L, or Window>Preview Lights off, will give you a headlamp-style illumination.
Is there a tutorial on using this content? I can't even load it now. It loaded before, but now does not work.
Check the readme.txt file in the TerraDome3 download for the location of the manual.
