Distant Light can not pass wall on IRay render?

Hi guys,

I try to do some lighting with Distant Light on http://www.daz3d.com/level-19 and see a result:
Distant Light pass wall on View, but when I do Iray render, it is completely dark. I move the Light Direction to an open wall then it display.
I do not see an option to move the Distant Light to nearer so that it can over the wall also.

Do you have any idea to make it work for a Distant Light through the wall?

Thank you

Iray is physcally based...so that means light can't be passed through solid objects nor can shadows be turned off.  Those are the two things that could be done in 3DL to allow a distant light to 'pass through' a wall.

There a couple things you can do...

Use a different light type (spot or point) and adjust size/geometry to make it a 'large' emitter.

Add a large 'mesh' light (emissive plane).

Or use an Iray Section Plane... http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/61593/sun-light-indoor-problem-i-ray

Distant lights emit parallel beams of light, as such only their direction matters not their placement.

  • Iray Section Plane is what I am looking for. Very clear, thank you mjc1016.

And thank you jestmart for your addition information.
