TerraLUNA3 [Commercial]

TerraLUNA3 is OUT NOW!!!
Every version of TerraDome has had an accompanying TerraLuna bringing the mysteries of the moon to your renders.
Now, Traveler and MortemVetus have teamed up to proudly present the third iteration of TerraLuna. Initially, this was intended for use within TerraDome3, but we quickly found it works just as well in a massive variety of outdoor scenes. As with all previous versions of TerraLuna, this version also casts it's own light, ensuring your night scenes are correctly lit. The pack also includes 12 HDR skies for use on the environment dome in DazStudio: 4 full night starry skies, as well as 4 dusk and 4 dawn skies, which produce some very dramatic lighting.
There are also 12 moonlight materials, to alter the colour of light being cast, as well as 12 moon materials. $ of the moon materials are set up to make the ghostly moons you see in the day.
Included in this bumper pack is:
Moon, Moon-Light, Control props
2 pre-load prop setups, for Night and Day moons,
12 stunning HDR skies (4 dawn, 4 dusk, 4 night)
12 moon materials
12 moonlight materials,
12 Utility poses for phasing and sky position.
Add this powerful and versatile set to your Iray arsenal today!

I owe you two (?) a couple of virtual cases of beer, or your beverage of choice. I've been able to reasonably simulate moonlight, but it's about a dozen steps and some trial and error for variables. TerraLUNA3 will be a huge benefit.
Thanks!
Ohh Beautiful and I've been waiting for this release :)
Wish-listed until I get paid on Friday!
Overall these look great, and the package is going to be an instant buy... but...
...in both of the two moon examples, the lighting of the moons themselves is driving me crazy. In the "Day Moons" shot, both moons and the foreground are theoretically being lit by the same light source, yet the shape of the crescents makes it clear that they are being lit from different positions. Unless your light source is almost as close as the furthest moon, the light crescents for two moons that close together in the sky should be almost identical, but the shadows on the larger moon here indicate a light source below the horizon while the foreground and smaller moon have a light source that is still just above the horizon. The "Two Moons Darker" shot has the same lighting issues and, unless the darker moon is actually inside the atmosphere, it should have the same amount of atmospheric haze as the the other... As a refernce, Earth's atmoshere is roughly 300 miles thick, but almost all of it is in the first ten miles... Also... there are several stars shining through the dark areas of the smaller background moon.
The latest xkcd is timely!

Is it possible to change the size of the moon, in case I'm not going for a series of impending lunar apocalypse renders? Also, I like the sound of "4 dusk and 4 dawn skies, which produce some very dramatic lighting," but I like to see things before I buy them. Any chance of a render showing what these skies look like, as I don't see any in the promo images.
Timely indeed!
Good question regarding the moon size. Since it's a separate set of props, I'd assumed that they could be shrunk or enlarged at will.
[Andrew] Guilty as charged. I was just after something cool looking to show you could have two independent instances in together. I freely admit I didn't pay as much attention to the real world physics as I should have. What appear to be stars through the small moon are Iray artifacts because I didn't leave it the full 100%. The dawn and dusk skies don't have stars that far down specifically for that reason. :)
@chris-2599934 Yes, the moon can be scaled to really massive. :) The dawn and dusk skies are the ones with the light blue that all the day moons are displayed on in the promo renders. They can take a little trial and error, turning the environment dome round a bit at a time until you find a nice angle. But they will reward you with some really nice light and shadow. :)
Is this IRAY only? Or, can it be tweaked to work in 3DL?
This looks great and, of course, I had to get it! Nighttime scenes are always frustrating. Been working on one for the last two days. I might have to redo my render in TerraLuna 3 just to see how different it is once that render is done and I get TerraLuna 3 installed!
I've been waiting for this. Can't wait to try it out. Just in time for Halloween renders. Bwahahahaha
If you are looking for something in 3DL, check out this: http://www.daz3d.com/fm-night-builder
That said, TerraLuna3 set is really helpful for Iray Night renders, it was instabuy for me.
This was an instant buy...I love Terradome3 and I can think of so many scenes that I can use this for! Will post a render when I get chance.
I didn't pay much attention to this at first, having passed on the TerraDome3 stuff when it was released. But when I saw it didn't need TerraDome3, I took a closer look. Now I think I must have this. Wishlisted for now...
Can anyone point me to the manual for this? I'm working on a render with the moon loaded but it's not showing up. I'm probably doing something silly...
Sorted it out...rendering now.
I'm having a few problems....so I'm goofing somewhere...when I put in a moon prop...the GTX970 card goes wonky and Daz freezes up. I get the same thing with my older GTX680. Maybe a step-by-step or a tuorial will help.
Mine was just user error...but a tutorial would be good. I'm not sure if one was included. I will need to check on the file list.
I got it to work...although I don't remember the sequence I used. Also...how do you make the moon bigger?
I've done it by selecting the control plus the two parts and going to parameters.
You are right, thank you. I am over-thinking this.
How do I make the moon visible, I load the render background with the stars but try don't show either...
That was my problem dkgoose until I realised that the big white thing isn't the actual moon move your work area so you can see the whole moon and you'll see the moon is in the middle of the big white thing.
My first render with Terradome and TerraLuna...plants are from Fern Lake, Genesis 3 wearing Woodland Elf with the HiveWire Big Cat.
haha thanks, I was confused what was going on the stars still don't seem to be showing but I got the moon now lol, thank you :)
No problem...I thought the big white thing was the moon to begin with. I've haven't tried to get the stars yet. I have to package up a freebie before I can play some more also...if I work it out I'll let you know.
I got some stars on one of the presets, I'll post my render once it's finished :)
Cool...which preset did you use?
Night sky 1
Thanks...
The other set with aurora borealis also has starry skies, for those interested.
I really like the fact that this one has an outer space lighting setting! Looks beautiful when rendered! Was delighted to find there are different grades of darkness, too. :) That and the different colours of moon, especially crimson for vampire and horror stuff!
i just need something like this for stormy Iray skies now... Multi-coloured fantasy skies, too.
Yep...it is wonderful. I just need more time to play with it.
At present, yes, although we are investigating 3Delight more. We were under the initial impression that 3DL couldn't do a lot of what was required for this and TerraDome3. Seems it can actually do quite a lot more than we were led to believe, so we're looking into it some more. :)
There was supposed to be a little video to show folks around it. It was supposed to be with the release yesterday, but because of RL issues last week has been delayed a little. Will try and get it finished and uploaded as soon as we can.
For scaling, select the Luna object rather than the Control, and scale on that. Also if you use the yRotation dial on the Luna object, the moon will phase from full to the slimmest crescent. :)
The Night Sky 1-4 are where the stars live. These bring deep darkness, and you'll be dependent on light casting from the moon (mostly from the Lunar Light object - the big halo ring) and any lights you may have in scene. The dawn and dusk skies are to give the appearance of the sun at the horizon, so the stars are gone to bed with that much light in the sky. The dawn and dusk skies are the ones to use the day moons on, for that ghostly look when the moon's out in the daylight.
Did anyone who doesn't have TD3 pick this up? Would love to see some renders of it without the TD3. :D
