bought a cheap monitor 4k, 28" ... same (so tragic?) very old sys (i5 2400! "only" 8 GB ram!! ...with a big help from two 840 ssd samsung)... I was not trusting but... my fantastic sweet gtx 970 can do the same more than honest job with iRay rendering, believe or not, the rendering time with this detail, is practically the same. I don't care about testing chrono. But believe me, please don't loose your eyes looking for crazy talking such as "you MUST get at least gtx 980" (I was considering this for a long time, that I should forcefully to buy at least  a gtx1070) and so, it was a big surprise when I was opening a random scene of mine, in Daz ...in this new monitor, and it was so FASSSSST. I don't play games, I'm not a frame-rate counter. I simply must tell that... now I feel better,  I can wait for the next gen. of GPU, I keep the 970, the old cpu, my cheap system in this unexpected sinergy with  the "impossible" 4k monitor (I don't tell the mark, because I think this is really not important, it's not a professional item: 500 euro the cost). If you like to play with Daz3d .... please don't trust, like I was thinking, that a 4k monitor it needs a monster GPU.  Beside that, my CPU is considered more than  pre-historic, but it is also, more than enough. The only problem at 3840x2160 is the size of the fonts in Daz interface, but I hope the guys of the team they will fix this. Maybe with the next update?

  • ...plus, at home I was never using a monitor with pivot option... to see a genesis 3 full texture, vertical in front of me with this huge detail it is simply SO NICE.

The reason 980 is better than 970 is the memory. 970 has 4 GB, and 980 has 6GB. That means that your scenes can be larger before they are kicked off to the CPU, that's all.

    of course  :-)  thanks,

sometimes what we read can give an "extreme" impression... if you look at 99% of the opinions about 4k monitors, they concern mostly about games, and so I wanted to share my newby experience with the awesome detail we can get in Daz... definitively with relatively modest GPU.  I'm lucky that I can use DP (Display-Port connection), to get from this 4K toy, it's maximum theorical 60 Hertz image refresh. And yes I get often a lot of kicks... to my old CPU, but I'm used to    sad ... since a lot.
