Horse 2 will not accept materials

I have 'Horse 2' and I drop it into the view. The Mane and Tail are separate. I merge them into the scene and I have a gray horse with a tail and mane. I drag the Horse material to the body and it accepts the material. I drag the Tail material to the scene and it WILL NOT accept the material. The Mane won't accept its material either. I can't figure out how to get the Tail and Mane materials on the horse.

I'm using Daz 4.9 on Windows 10. Any ideas?

Is there any particular reason why you're using the drag method to apply materials? That's the Right Thing to do in some circumstances, but in this case the mane and tail are fitted to the horse figure. This can have odd effects such as the mane/tail materials being applied to the horse instead, which of course won't work.

The standard way to apply materials is to select the object then double-click the material. Note that for fitted things, a simple click will select the horse, not the tail. Right-click on the tail and you get a drop-down menu; among other things, this gives you the option of selecting either the horse or the tail.

Note that this is a general technique; it also works on clothes fitted to a human figure.

SpottedKitty, thanks. No, no particular reason I was using drop and drag except for inexperience with Daz3D. I've been a 3ds Max guy for 20-years and know it very well but I need and use Daz about once a year so I never have the time to really get my head wrapped around it.

I appreciate the info about the proper way to apply the material. What hampered my initiative to find a work around was the fact that "drop-and -drag" worked on the horse's body. So I assumed that was a sufficient workflow. Then when it didn't work on the tail and mane I just never thought to double click the material. Pretty nooby...I know...

Regardless, thanks. You've saved the day for me...
