Thats odd cause I have two Zotac 980TI AMP Extreme's and both work with the acceleration turned on.  I have watched closely in the past using GPUZ and could see both in use.  It could just have been a hicup where the first card gets dropped in which case you just save and close the scene or close out DS and then reload it all and it works.  That has happened to me from time to time but not frequently

I personally dont use the Iray viewport.  I just look at the scene in the normal view port so my cards are not active until I do a test render or the final scene.  Try just viewing your scene in the normal view port and render with acceleration on to see if that helps.

Have you tested that OptiX is benefiting your scene in the first place? From the technical docs, it works by calculating ray trace intersections to triangle geometry. That's not the default geometry for most Daz human models.

I don't think I've ever noticed a big enough difference to bother with it. Some people have reported a change, but I'm not sure of the methodology used, so it's hard to tell if the results are valid or not. It's always a good idea to at least restart D|S between tests. Otherwise the results may be influenced by data held in cache. In any case, results will vary depending on the type of scene elements being rendered.
