Mac OS Sierra 10.12.1 iray not working help!!!

Can't get iray to work in Sierra 10.12.1 working with Titan Z. All was working fine in EL-capitain.
I've tried with the the latest 4.9 pro and also with 4.9 pro beta.
nvidia and cuda drivers are the latest.
CUDA Driver Version: 8.0.46; I've also tested with ocatne bench, and cuda is working because octane bench works. I've tried using older version of cuda, 7.5 but it still don't work. (with older version GPU are not visible)

I'm having the exact same issue, using GTX 780 + gtx 980TI each at 6GB.
I'm not on sierra, still on El Capitan. Last El cap driver for Nvidia, and last cuda driver but not 8 (i tried it, it went worst, shutting down BOTH cards. WIth 7 cuda drivers, it only kills one of the GPU)
I used to have a dedcated GPU for driving screen but i changed it for a more powerfull card so i want to render with both cards but can not.
Apparently, it's not only sierra related as i'm having it on el capitan.
It's not only cuda 8 related as i'm having it on Cuda 7.
It's not only VRAM related as even if the 980TI is not plugged to the monitors, it cuda crashes.
From my tests : SOME scene (complex or simple) will render with both cards, but SOME other scenes, even very simple one, will make the cuda crash.
It can be material/shader related as some material/shaders used might cause a problem in cuda MAC
Which ones? : no idea
I think there is an deep issue in MAc with CUDA
BUT
I have seen a lot of post of Blender mac users having the same issue on IRAY but last release of blender fixed it for all of them so i think DAZ needs to do something.
Have you opened a ticket in Daz support?
FIrst thing to do.
You may not have a quick solution but the more mac users are filling tickets, the more chances we'll get a fix

Iray 2016.2 which requires Cuda 8 no longer supports compute capability < 5.0, so 780 and lower cards are now not supported by nVidia for Iray.
This makes no sense, I doubt they would render every card incompatible. including the 980ti.

Hmm,, thats a weird error, I double checked with nVidias website and the minimum requirement is still 2.0, so it's most probably a bug in Iray, or their Iray requirements page hasn't been updated,.
I checked ALL the log files of the scene that COULD be rendered and the scenes that made CUDA crash.
So far there is ONE difference : the one that don't render (causing the GPU to shut down) have these lines :

The ones that render normally (bigger scenes, more figures/props, more and bigger texture so it's not a VRAM issue) do not have those lines.
Could you please check the log files of the scenes that don't render to see if there is any mention of MDL JIT compilation please?
I know i'm not on cuda 8 and not on the last beta version of studio, and not even on sierra but it's worth the shot.
For me, if i load DS, launch a Michael 7 character (alone, no cloth, no hair) it renders correctly with 2 GPUs , viewport or normal render in photoreal.
SO for me M7 is a clear test to see if everything is broken or just some "items", it has no material ISSUE so doesn't break cuda.
Coul you please do the same and launch a brand new DS, add Michael 7 and check the log ?

I just got a clarification from an NVIDIA forums mod. Iray 2016.2 still supports GPU's with a compute capability from 2.0 and higher.
Does any of you have an AMD CPU running the system?
MDL_JIT compliation is NOT an error, but rather a warning saying that the surface it is naming is NOT an Iray surface but rather is being converted on the fly.
So, in your case the problem could be the automatic conversion to Iray materials. In that scene you have the log snippet from, manually convert the wall lights and chandelier to the Daz Iray Uber shader and see what happens.
Yes but maybe the mac cuda doesn't like that type of conversion very much.
I will aslo add that i thought it would be enough to select all the surface listed and apply a DAZ IRAY UBER SHADER to it.
Result: it didn't change a thing, i still have those of MDL JIT lines in the NON RENDERING scenes.
Could another mac user with non working cuda can check their log files please and try the single M7 scene?

I'm working on intel CPU,
This problem started occuring in OSX once cuda 8.0.46 was released. Even in el-capitain updating to cuda 8 breaks daz studio. So i'm still working with cuda 7.5 in el-cap and all works well. Unfortonalty in macOS Sierra, cuda 7.5 is not an option, only cuda 8 works, and cuda 8 is not compatible with daz studio.
It's not that simple either, becuase if i load a plane jane V7 with no clothing just a base tecxture, cuda 8 does work. It's when i start adding stuff to the scene that it drops all GPU and reverts back to CPU. And i'm talking exactly the same scene works in cuda 7.5 and does not work in cuda 8.This can be easly tested by downloading the iray benhmark.
the first error that occurs in iray cuda 8 is when it tries to deallocated memory, it gets an error then fails.
Everything discussed above is refrencing the released version of Studio not the beta. The beta version will not work at all, even with a simple prop, it finds no valid GPU.
I'm currently on cuda 7.5.30 using released version of DAZ Studio (not beta)
As i stated, cuda 8 shut down both of my cards while reverting to cuda 7,5,30, it shuts down only one so i can still render.
OS is El Capitan (so not forced to cuda 8 yet).
When you load your V7, it works (like me with M7).Still i have been able to render a full M7 with hair, sword, a huge armour (4 ou 6 pices with 4000 or so texture), inside a Stonemason environement with no problem so it seems adding only a certain type of items crashes cuda.
Would you please redo the same V7 scene with the items you mention that crash the Renderer, and check the log files to see if you have similar lines please?
We all have different OS, Cuda version, GPU, Daz studio version so I'm just trying to figure what the crash have in common.

I've been running Cuda 8.0.46 on OSX 10.11 on my GTX-780 with no problem (but it not the screen driving card, I have a GTX750Ti for that) but with the latest Beta (Iray 2016.2) it says 780 & 750 is too old as seen above.
I am now installing 10.12 on a secondary disk just to see what the newest nVidia driver will say, but my guess so far is that there is a bug in Iray 2016.2 for OS X.
Totte, do you have some issues with the official release of studio too or only in the beta?
Only in beta, except that of you run VMWare or Substance Painter after you have run DS Iray, nVidia driver goes vacation causing a kernel panic...
I did the test, and i do see those lines right b4 cuda crashes.

a single M7 or V7 will render, it's only certain textures i'm guessing that make it crash. These same textures work with cuda 7.5 but are probabbly handled differently in cuda 8.
Interesting - would probably be very useful for th4 devs to have a case that works and one that crashes, simple stripped down cases. If you can make that, please bugreport or post it here and I can report it as I do that often, lol.
ok so i think we found what the bug is and i encourage you to do the same for verification:
If the GPU still don't render, you may have missed a faulty item (it happened to me twice before it renders correctly) so clear the mat, save close and reopen until you hit render.
For me doing so the scene renders PERFECTLY with both GPU (780 and 980 ti)

So, basically it's the automatic transformation from 3DL mats to Iray that fails?
I will soon try , macOS sierra up (so now I can connect the screen back to the 750Ti (the 780 is supported by the native driver, but the 750Ti isnt, so during OS installs I need the 780 to the screen)
Nope it's more complicated
The Shaders that causes issues (on my machine) are iray, not 3dl but they have SOMETHING in them that call to be JIT compiled.

Anyway, best workaround (and you won't like it much) for the moment if you can't render:
Apply the 3Delight mat files on the faulty items only.
It renders like a charm...
OK, I need to look at that myself, any item with those mats (I need to check myself)
at now, not use GPU, and use CPU only will be rendering safe.
In fact, you can convert the 3Delight materials to Iray Uber Base and the render will still work on the GPU, at least with the materials I've tried (Interstellar Patrol for G3F). The default Iray materials for the set will cause the GPU to scram every single time.
I wonder maybe if you convert the materials to Iray, save them (presets or maybe scene), like above, but don't replace them with something...keep the original conversion and then restart DS before rendering if there will be a difference.
The conversion process still has to run...unless the material is already set up for Iray. By manually converting it, you move it from render time, on the fly conversion to 'now'. It's a bit more than just moving image file names into new slots/making a couple of settings .
I suspect it comes down to a specific "feature" of the shader that requires JIT compilation. Iray Uber Base gets compiled entirely up front and doesn't require any dynamic reevaluation. Based just on the messages I'm reading, it seems as if the JIT compiler generates the wrong instructions for the card, while the "interactive" compiler does the right thing.
As a test the default materials for V7 work, but if I load MRL Eden, iray gets the error with JIT compliation, with MRKL Eden, it looks like the lips are causing the error.
That could very well be the area to look at...or not necessarily card but CUDA or drivers or a combination. Especially if there drivers are not being properly read. If the capabilities/CUDA level/etc are not being properly reported it would be pretty easy to screw up what instruction set is needed.
