Why I hate and love Daz3D

I wanted to share my story. As of last week, I had an old 8gb, 2.6ghz AMD 910 Quad Core machine with a Nvidia 750 1gb video card. I got sick and tired of waiting an eternity for 3Delight and Iray renders. I went out and bought a 1080 Founders Edition at Best Buy  (price matched for $619). Then I installed the new Beta version that doesnt work with Iray on older AMD processors so my machine kept crashing with my new powerhouse card I bought. I was so frustrated that I went out yesterday and bought a new HP Envy at Best Buy that was on sale for $750 (normally $900.00) that came with an I7 3.4ghz processor, 16gb ram and a 2 tb HD. After swapping out power supplies and adding my 1080 card, my renders are FLIPPING FLYING!!! BWAHAHAHAHA!!! What used to take me hours to do, now does in almost no time flat! No, I HATE HATE HATED the fact I couldnt enjoy Daz anymore with my old card due to the new Iray only content coming out and that I knew I would be forced to either drop 3d or pay for a decent upgrade, but I LOVE the fact my new machine I bought due to my love for 3D is a BEAST now that can do Iray (and EVERY game on the market) super quick!

Using GPU and Optix acc only, this test render took me only 6 minutes to do in Iray with over 1000 iterations which normally would have taken at least 20-35 minutes before!

I hate you Daz but I also love you! :)

  • That's quite the upgrade! No wonder you're ecstatic. :) I'm waiting to see what Zen is like in January for AMD's next CPU. If it's not up to par, I'm upgrading my CPU no matter what. Apparently, both nVidia and AMD have their true next gen video cards coming out next year or shortly thereafter. Interesting times. Regardless of what comes out, your system should do you fine for quite a while. You probably upgraded at the best possible time. CUDA drivers just came out for Pascal (1060-1080) and DAZ just added support for the next version of iRay.

I wonder how long it will be before you're complaining about 6 minutes being so slow that you can't do anything and need new hardware! cheeky

...for me, the 'new machine euphoria' lasts about 3 hours...
