Iray changing from GPU to CPU rendering , why?

Ok here is my issue, maybe others have the same case.

I have a GTX780Ti, does very well on iRay, after the 6th render it changes to CPU rendering and obviously renders like a turtle.

I'm using the Beta version .117, maybe is due to that?, I've seen doing the same with the General Version.

is there a memory saturation?, there is a script to purge the Gpu memory?

any help will help, se habla español.

Leaving renders open after rendering will eventually use up all the card's memory and drop to CPU mode.

If you are leaving the render windows open after the render they hold onto the memory on the gpu. Check the log (help -> troubleshooting -> view log); scroll to the bottom and then back up to where the last render started; you're looking for 'memory allocation error' or something close to that.

If this is the case, just closing the render windows will free the memory.

  • OK, lemme try your advices,

thanks for the fast help! cool

Download GPUz; that will tell you how much is beeing used.

I always have a scene open; it means they start about a minute faster. and the viewport preview starts faster too.

I only close when the scene only just fits onto the card; with a 980ti, it's more often than I like, but not too bad.

I have GPU-Z but never paid attention to the data displayed, when rendering I monitoring temperatures with MSI Afterburner instead, but I'll try on my next projects

btw, mjc1016 and namffuak were right, the issue was the open window, now I do 2 options, saving the unfinished image or select X, thanks!
