Hair style & choker request

  • It's the closest one yet, Retiretomaui. Thanks! Just that it has holes instead of carvings. Am putting it in my wishlist for now.

  • Yep I am making multiple types of styles there is also (not shown yet) a morph that makes the side bangs longer without changing the width of the bangs at all... So I will also make a morph that resembles your request :) I will post more pics soon

Your doing a fine job! Really looking forward to the versitility of this hair.

  • Just wanted to post an update... I'm a bit torn, because I don't really like how it looks. To me it just looks semi-good but for a perfectionist (like me) it's just okay. So I am leaving it up to you guys if you think I should stick with this model or start a new (same style) hair model, but with smaller strips and more realistic? If you want I can make a different (more realistic) model and then just post side by side comparision pics to see which one would look better?...

  • I like how it's progressing yes(and Season's Greetings to you!). I would also like it to look as realistic as possible if you can so I wouldn't mind seeing comparison pics. Also, could you flatten the top of her head/hair a bit so the outline doesn't look so perfectly rounded as if she's wearing a helmet?

  • The reason I want to start over is because the more I modify and smooth the shape out the more distorted the mesh becomes. So I figure that I need more strips of hair and smaller sections to have more versatility. Also part of it is because I was playing around with a new method of modeling hair a few days ago just for fun and liked it better than the method I used to create this hairstyle. So I want to try using the new method to create the same style but with more attention to detail and more/smaller strips of hair would allow for more range of motion and realism. I will add a pic of the new method along with a comparision render in a few days. :)

  • Okay so this is what I've got so far... it's not done yet, this is just a test render to see what it looks like so far... Don't know about you but I like this one a lot.

Oh... Oh... Oh... You should see me grinning! I love it, @die.kane_e880951035 !!

I didn't know you had left a new message, I just checked in to share this with you: I just saw this on Renderosity... I thought it was an interesting way of doing hair https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/mix-and-match-hair-pieces/101166/

  • Lol that's kinda ironic... I made the bangs seperate... you can use the hair with or without the bangs XD So it's funny that you showed me that (which I had not seen yet) lol... I'm glad you like it... I will keep you posted on progress :)

    Hi die.kane_e880951, Happy New Year.

Regarding your latest image. This is looking good. As to whether you drop the old mesh in favour of one using a new (better) method, that has to be your own choice, you are the artist and you have to be happy with your work. From my own perspective, the more realistic the better, However I'd rather not wait 10 years for the perfect hair model! :)

One request based on your latest model. Could you include a morph to flatten the center hair parting at the top to give the option of something like the attached image. Cheers!

  • I second @IsaacNewton's request!

  • Yes I can do that...

I'm very sorry it's been a while since I updated... I'm Diabetic and over the New Years weekend and the past week I was very sick. I am better now so I am back to working on it. Again I am sorry for the delay.

    I hope y'all had a wonderful holiday :)

  • I hope you're better now! I am patient gal  ;) Check out my new (draft) cover with the character on whose head MickmiHair will go... http://w.tt/1mn36xo

I'm sorry to hear that! That's really scary stuff. My mom is diabetic and I know how hard that can be to deal with. I'm very glad that you're better now though. Take care of yourself! :D *hugs*

No worries about delays, your health is far more important.

Kermorgan65, are you just making a cover for your novel or are you planning to illustrate it?

  • I want to illustrate it... ;)

  • kemorgan65 That's really cool! :) And thanks, I do feel a lot better just drained and tired hehe...

divamakeup and IsaacNewton Thank you as well! :D

  • Hey... so here's the latest update. I am keeping the I guess you could call it heart shaped crown as the "default" version of the hair (I like both that and the newer flatter shape so I figured others might as well hehe) so the newer flatter version is a morph (you can dial more than one morph so it shouldn't hinder any styling). Let me know what y'all think :)

    PREVIOUS VERSION: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxBmLJkejPMvZ2pQcXd3dlZZUlk

    NEW VERSION: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxBmLJkejPMvLXBBZWJYbTVXZm8

  • :) Yes, I like both too. A morph for that is quite fine. I'm just wondering,

    • In the 'flat' version, if it's depending on the shape of the head or can it not 'peak' so much, i.e. resulting in a flatter crown shape? Imagine the narrow end versus the broad end of a chicken egg, and your flat sample is the pointed end... you know what I mean? It's looking more like a perfectly rounded helmet there... or is that the shape of the model's head? I keep thinking the head should be a little flatter on the crown...
    • Also, can the distance between the brow and the top of the crown be reduced or does that depend on the model's headshape too?
    • I imagine in your finetuning of the hair, will the separation between the bang and the rest of the hair not look like it's so sharply cut off at the top? It's more noticeable on the flat version.
  • By the way, you said you're doing the bang as a separate prop. What does the bangless version look like?

  • IsaacNewtonIsaacNewton Posts: 1,300

It's looking very good. Having the option of a heart shaped peak or a round crown gives more flexibilty, which is always nice. It being a morph, one can always dial any inbetween value :)

    Great work.

  • Okay so ran into some complications and had to figure out how to get the results I wanted in some of the morphs... Here are a few more morphs I have made:

Rounder version of the "flat" morph (I am including both for personal preference):

    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxBmLJkejPMvMVpTc3ROcDhVZ00

    Side parts for both sides:

    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxBmLJkejPMvYWZoWGFENm9vR0k

    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxBmLJkejPMvTUFMZGVpd1Nibm8

A Wavy morph (can be combined with any of the previous morphs):

    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxBmLJkejPMvTTRZS3VoS2xnWFk

Let me know if you like the wavy morph or not.

Also I do plan on including "Adjustment" morphs which will have a bang height morph to move it up or down.

As for the original plan to have the bangs be separate, it was too complicated to have them match up when morphing, so the bangs are no longer separate but they do have their own material zone, so the bangs can be hidden.

You are really going to town on the morphs. This is going to be a very versatile hair piece. I like your new rounder version of the flat morph... so now we can have everything in between.

Personally I'm not so keen on the wavy morph. For me one of the attractions of this hair piece is that the hair is straight. However, I'm sure some people will love the option of adding waves.

Hiding the bangs as required is fine. If you are catering for the lazy ones amongst us you can even create a style icon which hides the bangs with one click. Glad that you will include adjustment morphs for length etc, that always adds to versatility.

This is definitely a commercial quality product. Looking forward to using this hair.

  • I like how you're progressing! This flat version is much better, and I like the side options. I don't mind the wave version either because if one is going to use the hair for a character in multiple scenarios, she might want to go to a party and so she wants to fix up her hair in a different style. Having a couple extra built in is perfect! (Guys don't understand how important that can be for us ladies!wink )  Perhaps even a ponytail morph? Perhaps even a version pinning her hair above her ear? Hmmm, ideas, ideas.... lol... Great work!

  • @die.kane_e880951035 Just got an idea... if it's not too much work... (!) wink

She has a thick bang. It would be nice if there were morphs to set the thickness of her bang to thinner too...

  • IsaacNewtonIsaacNewton Posts: 1,300

Hi Kermorgan, By "thick bang" do you mean the depth of hair from outside to forehead? If so then I wonder whether a morph would be very effective? It might look a bit blocky or plastic. Perhaps an alternative strategy to thicken the bang would be to add another layer of mesh which would have its own surfaces including transparency/opacity. The complication is that the extra layer of mesh would probably also need it's own set of morphs; length, partings etc. That could mean a lot of extra work, but again would give extra versitality. This could be a never ending project lol.

  • Oh! Hi @IsaacNewton ! I don't know what happened but I never saw a notification of your message in my email... sorry! Yes, you are correct, that's what I meant, thickness of the bang from the outside to the forehead, depending on how much hair is allowed to hang in front of the forehead.

I was just checking in here today to say hello @die.kane_e880951035 it's been a while, just wondering how you are doing and if you're well? I hope so. ;)

Hi kemorgan65, Doing well thanks :)

Hi die-kane, How are you getting along with your hair figure for g3f?

  • Hi SWAM
I see you have some great hairstyles in your portfolio, I even have purchased a couple of them but I am searching for a specific style I haven't identified yet. die.kane_e880951035  who was so kindly working on it before but it seems she is out of the picture since I haven't heard from her for a long time now.

I like your most recent Nita hair https://www.daz3d.com/nita-hair-for-genesis-3-female-s which has the perfect bang for my character, but it doesn't seem to be able to morph to a shorter style. Would you mind making a modified version of Nita based on the descriptions I have in this thread? In particular, I'd want shorter length (to shoulders), removing most of the overlap of side-hair under bang,  opening up/widening the face to just about reveal the ears, and end curl morphs. I'm willing to buy it if it's in the Daz Shop... I've been looking for months!
