How to suspend autofit ?

Hi,

How can I shut off autofit for special props/support assets?

For most accessoirs it is useful, that it automatically adapts its size to the parent character. So far OK.
You can save it as "Wearable" or "Support Asset -> Figure/Prop Asset" and it works.

On the other hand there are some Assets, which shouldn't change its size when applied to a parent character. They should automatically jump into the correct position, of cause, but not change their size related to the parent figure. It is useful, that they are parented in case of moving the parent character around.

But how to preserve the original size?

  • I just parent the item instead of fitting it. You may have to fiddle with its positioning but parenting usually does the job.

But how to save the asset, so that it

    1. jumps into the correct position,
    2. is automatically parented to the parent character?

    Hope you understand:
I want to save it as a preset, so I can apply this prop to every other character with doubleclick on the icon, just like a normal support-asset / wearable. But without adapting its scale.
For pose presets you have the choice to exclude some of the paramaters. For creating support assets, there is nothing.

  • Ahh, I see. Seems to me that it shouldnt be that difficult. Vendors make those presets all the time... I wouldnt be suprised if it was a function you could do right in Daz...

    Now I think I want to expirement.laugh

  • Ok, well I figured out how to make a pose preset. You could load the prop and then use the pose preset to position the prop correctly. Im not sure how you would go about getting the preset to parent the item though. Ill write up the method I used to make the preset... give me a moment.

    Yea,

I thought there was a possibility like for shaders. With a special combination of function keys you get a dialog while loading to select/ignore some special parameters.

Attached you'll find an example, I want to discuss.
There is a shovel prop, what should stay the same size, independant to which character it is applied.

Left: I created (posed) it on the adult character (100%). Parented it and saved as prop.

Right: This happens, when I apply the Prop Preset to a very young character. It changes its original size to round 60%.

Middle: This is how it should look. The character is smaller (younger), but the shovel stays the original size.

    1. Load your prop. Dont parent or autofit.

    2. Position prop.

    3. With prop selected, Select File > Save As > Properties Preset.

Then itll ask you where to save, you could store it with your prop and call it prop right hand or whatever. And then you just use it as a pose preset after you load the item.  There are a number of settings in the preset menu. You may be able to figure out how to parent from that. Also, you may be able to make a generic "move to" pose that would work for just about everything. Also, fiddle with the settings. I just applied all and when I attempted to use the pose on items that the preset wasnt intended for, it did all sorts of wacky things.

    Hope that helps.

    Sorry,

    but that does not work.
In the properties preset there is only the pose section with the normal parameters for General-Transforms (Position, Rotation, Scale).
The further sections (Shaping, Materials, Other) don't have any suitable parameters, which apply here.

And it is not creating / inserting the shovel prop to the character.

Yah, I noticed that when I explored further. Well, good luck. It certainly would be something useful to find out.

    So,

the only alternate method it works:

    1. Parent the posed prop to the character - in the current case: to the right hand.
    2. Save as Properties Preset - deselect the scale parameter.

Applying the shovel to a character:

    1. Pose the character using a suitable pose preset.
    2. Load the shovel prop.
    3. Parent the shovel prop to the right hand.
    4. Apply the stored properties preset of the shovel to the shovel.

Now the shovel is positioned in the correct position without changing its size.
This is way more complicated compared to my original approach, where I only selected the prop and it automatically appeared in the scene correctly positioned in the hand - but with changed scale. Thus as long there aren't any parameters selectable for support-props, it seems as we have to walk the way of pain. wink

    P. S.
wouldn't a simple pose preset do the same, cause only the pose properties are stored?
