so I was thinking of buying one of RawArt's animal characters like http://www.daz3d.com/cat-world-regenesis-hd-jaguar but I noticed it uses real fur (LAMH) and i was wondering... does that render in Iray?

Not directly. It needs to be turned into a mesh, first, by converting it into an obj file. Doing this should be the last setp before rendering, because that 'locks' the hair to the pose it was converted in...
okay, well crud, that seems like a royal pain. Cest la Vi
The full LAMH exports a highly optimized hair for Iray directly to DS. No OBJ necessary. If you are using the free player only, then you will need the OBJ path.
