The Content management System died as indicated by the loss of Smart Content, Product view and, Catagories. I had exported User Data and reset the Database. When I went to Reimport user data, nothing showed up. I've tried to start Conent Management System both in Studio and in Windows and suposedly it is running. I've restarted Studio, Restarted the Computer and, Uninstalled Postgre and reinstalled it. There has been NO improvement. I Have NOT tried Uninstalling Studio and then reinstalling yet. I'm hoping someone has an idea. I'm using the latest public release on Windows 7.

If it was working and suddenly quit, that usually indicates something external, like an AV is blocking it or a port it needs. Which AV/security software are you running and has it had a recent update?
I'm running Macafee. I don't think there were any updates in the period of time when it was working to when it died. We're talking less than an hour, after all.
Gus
In Task Manager, it should show between 4 and 12 PostgreSQL processes, if it's running. Do any show?
Just look and see if McAfee is blocking port 5432 (that's the 'default').
Relaying a message.
The CMS port is 1024. How do I find what port McAfee is using? All I could find in Task Manager is PID. I could'nt find anything in McAfee.
Gus
5432 is the default port 'vanilla' Postgre uses, so I got confused there...but the one Studio uses could vary from that.
It's been a while since I've gone through McAfee's configuration (my wife's subscription expired 2 yrs ago and we went with Avast, instead of renewing), but there should be a list of programs that you exclude/allow for many things...or you can try turning off all but scan on demand functions and see if CMS comes back.
so far so good. The "User Data" is a collection of your personal changes to existing metadata,
Examples: Additional categories you created, metadata product parameters you modified etc.
If you reset the Database all product metadata gets wiped from the database as well, not just the userdata
With the database completly wiped just loading the user data will not restore the wiped metadata of all the products.

My guess:
-> You may need to redownload all metadata for the installed products.
There are several ways to do this.
One way is directly inside DAZ Studio:
- open the DAZ Studio smart content tab
- make sure to sellect the Products view, select the "ALL" filter state, click on the category "All Products"
- make sure "filter by context" is not activated
- hit CTRL + A to mark all products orange
- right click - "Update Metadata"
-> The benefit of updating / redownloading the metadata with DAZ Connect in the Smart Content Tab is that it only downloads the metadata.
Redownloading metadata may still take some time but is certainly faster than completly reinstalling all products including geometry and textures.

Maybe a screenshot could help to better estimate in which state your DAZ Studio smart content is.
The metadata is all installed. The problem is Studio connecting to the database. I have Uninstalled Postgre and reinstalled it with DIM. Is it suposed to show up in Control Panel's Uninstall programs window? It doesn't in mine. Postgre doesn't show up at all in Task Manager, Resource Monitor or, McAfee. There is a Service called DazContentManagementService, but that is all. Is it possible that Studio has fallen back to Valentina? I have looked in the log file, there's a lot of stuff going on with IRay, but no reference to Postgre.
Gus
If it's saying DazContent Management Service, then something really odd is going on...because 4.9 shouldn't be using Valentina...
That's what it's saying and I just made sure it was 4.9. Is there aqny way to check on which system it is using? I know I converted to Postgre from Valentina, but I don't think I specifically deleted it. I do still have Studio 3 installed.

How my system looks like with PostgreSQL installed:
-> I followed the steps to update from Valentina to PostgreSQL.

With the Download and install manager DIM install
- the latest version of DAZ Studio (General Release or Beta)
- PostgreSQL CMS
- PostgreSQL CMS From Valentina CMS Conversion
- I manually uninstalled valentina from the windows uninstall options in the control panel after making sure smart content and metadata works fine in DAZ Studio.
Now the only software by DAZ3D that still shows up in the windows 10 control panel is the DAZ Install Manager:

When running DAZ Studio the PostgreSQL process should show up in the task manager under processes

Which database is DAZ Studio 3 using?
I do not know if DAZ Studio 3 uses Valentina, any other even older database system or none at all.
I started learning about Studio with version 4 which was introduced around 2011.
Speculation:
It might very well be that running DAZ Studio 3 requires some addtional software and plugins that still show up in the windows control panel.
-> Maybe someone else more familiar with running older DAZ Studio versions together with new ones has a better understanding about what may work and what may cause some unexpected side effects.
