Another Kendall Utility... anyone interested?

I've written a DSON (.duf,.dsf,etc) explorer-browser. It isn't complete/optimized yet, but it does read/write DSON files and allows one to look at, modify, delete, and add entries into the files. This utility could be used to recover .DUF files that have become unusable in DS4 or Carrara.

Would anyone be interested in such a beast? Would it be worth $1 or $1.99?

I have prototype versions working for Linux, Intel Mac, and Windows.

Depending on the responses I may add object viewing (3D view), and the ability to make scene changes directly from the utility.

I don't even use DS4.5 right now, but if it's the same as having a corrupt scene file out of DS4 then this utility for the new formats would be extremely awesome.

Also yes, it would be well worth it as a paid product.

    I'm interested. I can invest a dollar...

3D viewing would be a welcomed addition also if you can swing it.

Also, would you mind adding a Dynamic Cloth Module to the utility. Please add ability to "clothify" conforming clothes as well... (Just Jokes)

    Take care...

Funny that you mentioned 'clothify.' I actually did look into that a bit. Just not for this utility. :-)

Onto other things: the 3D view is for reference only. I don't know what exactly I am going to have it show. I know that I won't try to recreate the whole scene and display that... (I'm leaving that for the port of DS4 to Linux... gotcha. :P ).

Seems to be a good idea. I love utilities.

Any possibility of having the behaviour scriptable / driveable from some form of "macro file"?

If it becomes a "defacto standard" for DSON viewing/editing (ie "most people have it", or we can point newbies to it as an Eminently Useful Tool(tm)), it would be nice to have the capability to provide little "helper scripts" here on the forum to fix common problems/issues...

*not really having an up-to-date idea of exactly what info is stored in a DSON now - but automation is almost always nice to have* (^_^)>.

Any update on this? Or have I missed it in a different thread? Stupid subscriptions keep dropping...

Update.... rapidfire DSF changes, and then DSON final happened. I've not had a chance to re-look at what differences were implemented. Some of the problems with DSF that I had originally started the program to resolve are no longer issues.

The utility is not dead but is not near as needed as it was when I posted about whether anyone was interested.

Truly though, the response was not very good.

Would be great if it's ever completed!

I would definitely be interested. Would it output an ASCII file, or XML, or would it let you crawl through each entry?
