How to create UV Maps in DAZ3d

Hello. I am new to DAZ3d. SInce I amworking on clothes for the past 1 week in DAZ, I got to know that we have to create custom UV Maps to make custom designs on dress. In order to do that I need to work on Zbrush which I know some what. But is there any way I could create custom UV maps based on the cloth design so that I can install my own templates on the clothes in DAZ itself. You can check the attached image. How do I make UV maps for the clothes so that I can put my own texture on clothes which are covered on bust and arms respectively.

If ZBrush doesn't allow you to make UVs, you'll need to find another application as you can't make UVs in DAZ Studio.

Blender (free), Wings3D (free), Carrara and others will allow you to make UV maps.  I would expect you could do it in ZBrush, but I don't own it and off hand don't recall anyone talking about UV mapping in ZBrush.

  • Yeah, you cerate the UV map in your 3D modeling software. Any 3D modeling app will do it.

Protip: If anyone is using Lightwave and exporting to obj, make sure the texture setting is set to UV map and that it has the UV map selected in the surface. Just having a UV map is not enough. You have to set it in your surfaces.

  • Did you model the clothes yourself and need to UV map it, or do you want to make a new texture for an existing item? The orignal post made me wonder if we might just be talking about custom textures, which probably would not need a whole new UV map, if one already exists.

hello destiny. I have a requirement. Pls check www.houseofblouse.com. There are lot of blouse models which I need to design. Can you work on that with UV mapping. Pl let me know so that I can take a call. And pls let me know what will be charge for models. I need cloth model with UV mapping. I will do texture and rendering.

  • I think I see now more what you are trying to do. I was hoping that maybe just doing textures for an existing model would be enough, but it looks like you need to have very specific models and I'm totally the wrong person to help with that.

If you are going to make the models yourself, your modeling program will have instructions to make the UV maps for the models.

If you wish to request someone to take a commission, you can post an advertisement in the commons. Put as much detail as you can in the post. Anyone who would be available would need to know how many models you need, detailed pictures of the clothing (or link to the website), what figures they would be for, when you needed them, and a general idea of how much you could pay. I'd expect you to be quoted anywhere from $200 to $500 per item.

Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck.

As Destiny said, it can get quite costly...so how many meshes would you need?

  • Zbrush has a plugin called UV-master which makes it possible to create UV maps. It doesn't make the most sophisticated maps, but you have some control how to unwrap your model. You can always rearrange the map in a program like UVmapperPro.

The thread have the right title... so I ask here :)

HOW to I create UV maps? I see the need for it some times so maybe I can do it self, I did hear Hexagon is able to do it. Is anywhere a explaining for it?

I got here an object with such crazy UV map:

(and that is filtered by material).

    The result is this:

complete crazy, wanted to make that child car seat (boosterseat) a bit cuter. How can I do it self?

  • Yes, you need a separate tool to set up UVs - Hexagon will do it, as will Blender.
