render times comment

Ain't it amazing the difference in time it takes to render depending on the render option selected. Basic and intermmediate rendered this 3 second clip in under a minute and a half. Doing same with Iray and it's going to take about 2.5 days. Haven't even tried the last two options. I was btw able to use an injected animation of a character sitting down which all combined came out rather nice.

What does REM (on various icons) stand for? And is there a head or face/eye/mouth animation (injection?) kit for the Genesis series?

Basic and intermediate are low quality (crap actually) OpenGL, the same standard that the basic viewport uses and therefore intended for real time display speeds.  Iray is a physically real render engine that uses complex calculations for lights and surfaces and how they interact.  INJ and REM are short for inject and remove respectively.

  • I see, thanks. I still have the ambiguous issue with Studio. If there's a reboot I have to reinstall it in order for it to find products or use the search. I've got this Utterly ridiculous button on my keyboard (sliver moon icon) which when hit shuts Windows down!!! Don't know how many times I've accidentally hit this. I swear they did this for laughs and nothing else as there's no way to get it back on without rebooting. So upon reboot Sudio is back to malfunction mode until I reinstall it - and yet another full day of rendering lost. But worse is that it won't save the clothing or cameras I tediously set up. Think I'm going to settle for the intermmediate render as this is way too much effort for a three second clip. I'll use the "zoom" effect in Corel Video to soften up the edges as it were. I've been working on a short film and it's heavy on effects and especially transitions. It's an artform unto itself and it ain't cheesy or overblown. Some of the results via accident and or experimentation are superp. Their "flashback" transition effect is very cool.

Something which may be related to Studio's glitch is that I keep getting, tho not always, an IP address error dialog.

  • Why do you need to reinstal DS? Does it disappear from the system, or fail to launch? It almost sounds as if soemthing is forcing a system restore to a pre-DS state - that would indicate a serious system lelvel issue to me.

How are you saving? A scene (or scene preset) will include clothing and cameras (but note that the perspective View isn't saved - if you are using that, before saving go to Create>New Camera, click the More Options button, and check the Copy Active View option to create a camera using the current point of view).

  • This is the only program to do something like this. Saved as scene... where all other saved scenes reload as set up. Appears to be a special kind of glitch. I had a glitch with Corel Video and it somehow corrected itself. I think this is the first time a file didn't open as saved. I have to do everything before closing or rebooting in order to get what's saved.
