Want to get More Open and Serious about Daz Studio Usage (Commercial and Free)

I been playing around with DAZ for 2 years now just messing around making characters in my spare time and testing the render engine. But I didn't do anything serious with it or used it for any of my commission or public projects. I'm at the point where I would like to use Daz Studio in a more professional way including it in my 3D pipeline for many projects. Things like making entourage for architectural rendering, animation, comics, and I especially want to use it to make visuals for a book I'm writing making all the characters with it. Are there any limitations I should be aware of once I begin to use Daz in a more open way? Are there any examples of Daz usage in any major projects?

  • Content from the Daz store (with the exception of a single many-years-old item) is clear to use in renders for any purpose. Rendered images are 100% yours, to do with as you wish. Content from other sources may come with more restrictions; be particularly cautious about freebies from ShareCG, which often come with restrictions on commercial use.

Actually, pay more attention to the included ReadMe, if the item has one, than what it may say on the download page.  If there is no ReadMe or it doesn't spell out usage, then go by what is on the download page.

The 'default' at ShareCG is actually the most restrictive.  And if the uploader forgets to change it, the item will be marked that way.  But, yes, there are quite a few non-comm freebies on both ShareCG and Renderosity.

For the most part, anything that is clearly 'fanart'/game/specific sci-fi franchise related will automatically be non-commercial.

Thanks, this is good news. I was afraid there was some kind of catch. I will be making much of the clothes, props and locations myself anyway since my projects call for many things that are unlikely to be found in the shops. I recently learned how to make my own morphs and I'm in the process of learning to make clothes and hair. Looks like my Daz program just got a promotion.
