  • 3 Views of the US Motel model, with additional trees added in Thea render and again, heavily post processed in photoshop after.

I have to say,the models I have purchased from daz 3d  are second to none.I have my own small architectural practice and there is nothing I love more than in the few cases where I have some down time, just playing around with different models and practicing my NPR skills.

Seriously awesome images.  The vibrancy and richness of the THEA renders is outstanding.  I'm still in awe with what you did with my 1950's Motel.  Yet the ship in ice,  the globe and maps,  the newstand the candy machine.  You are an artist!

  • Fantastic renders!

  • Thanks for the comments guys,as I said, the quality of the modelling makes the rendering so enjoyable.

  • I have uploaded these images and more to my gallery "David H NPR images".

There are many different scenes and some different types of NPR effects.

  • Seriously wonderful!

Can you say anything about using Thea?

    Very cool stuff!

  • These could easily work in a graphic novel. The hand painted styles suggests a high production value.  Real nice,  especially the choices of camera angle on the "Abandoned" shots.

    FANTASTIC use of the technology.

Most of us haven't used THEA. Perhaps you could start a thread on how you've set up your system, and the the other software you use. Being a Photoshop post wonk myself, I'm particularly curious about this side of your process.

I have been using Thea render for a couple of years now.It originally was just a stand alone studio but it now exists as a plugin for multiple modelling programs such as 3d max, sketchup,Rhino etc.

It painlessly imports daz 3d scenes once they are exported from Daz as .obj files. All textures come through but bump maps, reflection maps etc have to be reapplied but it dosent take long.

It has a great interface that allows for interactive rendering on the fly that means you can alter/revise materials, lights and sun and see them updtae immediatly. It also allows for detailed vegetation, either imported or placed from the default Thea library which comes as standard.

I have had a background in painting, both oils and acrylics but in the last few years I have shifted to digital art,and as said before, the models available from Daz are brilliant to work with.

My goal for each render is not so much the detail but more for mood and I will always sacrifice detail if it means getting a more evocative image e.g using a strong Depth of field or darkening parts of the images a lot so while some detail is lost, the area in light is really pronounced, such as the church images above.

Another great display!  The mountain trail ones and the "Bug" stand out praticularly well.  And 20th Century Fox  probably owes you concept fee for their next great franchise  Predatotr vs Samurai.  I'd watch that!
