As far as software being better than the other... It's not the software that makes it good, every software is only as good as the person who uses it. Our computers are mindless. They do only what the user/programmer tells it to do.

I love photoshop, It's my imagery software by choice, I'm comfortable with it, my skills are in photoshop... for me, I dont need any alternative. I DONT tell people Gimp sucks use photoshop! Photoshop is perfect for me. But what works for one, doesn't necessarily work for the other.

...I wish I could afford apps like Photoshop, C4D, Modo or render engines like Maxwell (I love what it does with skin tones), but barring winning the lotto or getting a very healthy increase in the monthly pay envelope (both highly unlikely), I don't see it happening any time (Daz) soon. I love the work I see done with these and other high end software, but realise I have to be content with and make the best of my little CG "toys". It doesn't make me any better or any worse than anyone else in this pursuit, just different, and there's nothing wrong in that.

A great deal depends upon how shaders are set up for a render. Seen good quality PovRay renders and bad quality Arnold renders :)

Guess what I'm tryin' to say is there is nothing wrong with or bad about the 3Delight renderer, is quite flexible as it happens :)

...the standalone 3Delight is great, if you have the scratch to afford the unlimited thread licence (an i7 qualifies as 8 threads).

Otherwise you are limited to only two threads with the free licence.

Lux (Reality) is very good but still seems to have issues with hair and skin shaders which for me is a sticking point as I do a lot of character work. Maxwell and Modo seem to fair a lot better in that department.

I lost my avatar but now I cannot seem to ad a new one

Have you tried it in different formats? (eg if in JPG, try uploading a PNG, and vice-versa). I think I remember Ms Chohole making that advice some pages back. Or try a (slightly) different size image?

I just got up. it is four am. My raisins are at the other side of the home. so that won't help me being hungry. I ate a good dinner but that was almost eight hours ago.

I woke up with vivid dreams. I do not want to go back asleep.

nothing wrong with Blender, its free, the cycles renderer it now has produces amazing stuff, just takes a bit of time

    Various bits n bobs:

Cleared out my RDNA wishlist, and the 3 things I wanted from Daz. Now clearing my Rendo wishlist a few bits at a time.

So far I've resisted blowing all my cash on an i7 laptop, since if I did I have nowhere to put it! Space is at an absolute premium until Imove again in late March/early April to a larger room. :ahhh: Besides, I haven't pushed PPro and the i5 system to the limit yet, so a new laptop might be solving a problem that doesn't actually exist... :red: :red:

I *HAVE* figured out a way to do soldering work in my tiny room, so I think I can replace the pickups in my Ibanez on my own and not pay a guitar tech $150 to do the job. I really wanted to do the work myself, as a learning experience if nothing else. It'll be tricky but workable!

Rain, rain, mist, rain, clear sky, rain, then COLD COLD COLD all next week! :gulp: Weather is weird this year! :bug:

No new renders since I can barely use the laptop for more than 30 minutes at a time due to the crappy seating in the room.. I hope to fix that this weekend if it DOESN'T BLOODY RAIN! :ahhh:

    Coooooooooofffffffffffeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee time! :cheese:

It sounds like you've certainly got a *physical* reason to simplify (sheer lack of space => no more big bulky purchases for _you_! ;-) ). Now just need to follow through to regain your zen-like peace within the four non-burnt walls you do have (~h~).

Yeah, I know.. somewhere a dancer haz no cheezeburger because I'm cutting back.. :red: :red: Oh well, the economy in Austin is good, someone will take up the slack, I'm sure! :snake:

And definitely I'm highly motivated by lack of space. Having restricted space is good for me int he long run as it puts a hard limit on loading up on stuff I "might need later" (as if!). And honestly, I have the i5 system for visual arts, a dual-core Pentium for writing, and now a nice Lenovo X61 tablet PC for portable writing/mobile computing. More compute power? Not needed! More guitars? Not needed! Bass? Nope, don't play it but once a month maybe, so out it goes! I'm going to be flooding Craigslist over the next 2-3 months (lol)! I don't even need more software, with PPro 2012 there's more there than I can use at this stage.

I am going to get another couple of stuffed toys, though, there's lots of room on the bed for them: another plush lizard, and I think maybe a plush whale shark! :bug:

Instead of buying stuff, the money is going on the prepaid VISA - there's no max dollar amount - and I'm going to go travel off and on. I found out how to take my diabetes meds and blood test kit on the plane, through TSA, so that's no longer a showstopper, whew! Bus/train to, say, San Francisco or New Orleans would be *painful*. :-S

Now I have an odd urge for DEAD FISH ON A TRAY... :-S :gulp:

It's just a working title for the third book in the trilogy.. it has meaning in the context of the story-line. :smirk:
