Zip files stored in Install manager directory-- safe to delete?

I've found a huge number of zip files stored by Daz in install manager's directory . . . why are they there? I thought the zip was what was downloaded, but then was expanded. These are many, many gigabytes of files. They don't seem to be in-use downloads, many are from months ago
Can these be deleted?

Yes they are safeto delete. There is a check box in DIM that tells it to delete them after installing.
These are the files that DIM downloads, and then installs. You don't HAVE to keep them around (as @jestmart said, there is a check-box on DIM to tell it to delete after install) but if you might uninstall some content then reinstall it later, it might be better to keep it around. If you have the current zips still in DIM, they don't have to re-download to install them. For some of the larger packages (some of the shader sets are 0.5 - 2.0 GB!) it's often better to keep a copy of the DIM zips around. It does mean you have both the ZIP file AND the installed (extracted) copies on your drives (which means more disk space.)
Put simply, if you have the room to spare on your drives, leave them around for convenience. If you are iffy on space, just delete the smaller packages, leave the bigger ones (so you don't have to download them again.) And if you are tight on space, delete them all, but realize you'll have to re-download any time you need to re-install a package.
You can also backup the zips to a CD/DVD/BD if you have a burner, then delete them. That way you don't have to re-download, just copy them back from the disc to the same place on your drive, then run DIM and they'll be back in the 'ready to install' tab. Takes a little more effort, but saves space, and you can do it only when the drive usage gets too high.
