Baking Instancing into single geometry and importing camera track data

Hi all,

I do a lot of compositing with Cinema 4D and Daz3D is my go-to spot for models. If it's static geometry, I can export from DAZ as an .obj and if it's animated, I can export as an .fbx. Everything works great and I can handle all camera tracking and the like in Cinema4D (and sometimes Element3D for AE). I recently bought the Rock Formations bundle, thinking I could do the same thing. Not quite. The actual rock formations are done by using Instances of a single rock geometry. When I export (regardless of what file type I choose), the instancing is lost so all that is exported is that single rock geometry. I haven't found a method to bake the instances into a single geometry, so I though I could do a camera track in After Effects or Cinema 4D or maybe PFTrack and import that data into DAZ3D.

I discovered this and, while it does bring over the camera and nulls from After Effects, the camera movement is not transferred over.

I'm still toying things at this stage but I was curious if anyone knows of A) a method of baking instancing into a single geometry, or B) knows of a way to import tracking data?

that's not precisely what you need

but using this you could convert the rock instances into 'real' rocks

then using a save/wavefront .obj followed by load/wavefront .obj .... convert the many rocks into 1 obj

by default i think the daz .obj exporter wont export hidden nodes, so you could turn off visibility on everything except the rocks

Initially i just wanted a script to replace instances of Guitar Stacks by real Guitar stacks

because the instances are not exported when you export a scene as fbx or obj etc ...

but this script can replace anythings with anything

concerning camera tracking you may be interested in this, i think it must still work with the current daz studio
