Gathering Files For A Scene

I have created a DAZ Studio 4.9 project with a G3 figure, some OBJ imported clothing that has been conformed (Transfer Utility) to the G3 figure and a number of OBJ imported props some including morphs.

I have not saved any of the clothing or props as DAZ files.

Since I want to be able to distribute the project to other users, I need to wrap up all the contents in some managable way so that they can be passed to other people.

I tried saving my work as a Scene which seems to have created a DUF file and DUF PNG file (in the Scenes folder of My Library). However, I don't seem to have found any other files that saving the scene might have generated. From a quick search on the internet, users seemed to have indicated that a scene file just contains pointers to where the content is stored...althoug they were speaking regarding files ending in "daz" while my save seems to have generated a "duf" file.

Assuming that the scene file only points to the location of the various content in the scene, since mos of the imported content was in the form of OBJ files (as opposed to DAZ files) does this mean that the scene file is pointing to the OBJ files as the content source?

What is the best way to save a project of contents, morphs and animation, in DAZ Studio, for redistribution?

Anything in the scene that is not already in a Studio native format will have its geometry and similar 'tech spec' info saved to a folder inside an "auto_adapted" folder inside the "data" folder of the library you saved the scene to.  Because of this you should make a project library so everything needed is in it.

  • Thanks for the info but I am a little unclear by "Because of this you should make a project library so everything needed is in it". Can you explain a bit more? Do you mean convert everything to DAZ Studio format so that there wouldn't be anything in "auto_adapted"?

If you go looking for "auto_adapted" you will probably find it is full of stuff you have no Idea what it is.  Making a project library will mean that everything in "auto_adapted" is for that project and you don't need to waste file size zipping up a bunch of stuff not needed for the scene.  Of course turning the stuff in to proper Studio native formats is the best long term solution.

  • I think I undertand. By making a project library, the auto_adapted contents would be for that specific project and thereby all of its contents would be required as opposed to the common auto_adapter which probably has contents from a number of different projects. In my particular case, I decided to go with making everything DAZ Studio native formats (as you suggested) but I still appreciate the info for future. Thanks.
