I need Photoshop in order to use this?

During the install, I got an error, saying that I didn't have a path to Photoshop, or something to the effect.
Do I have to buy Photoshop in order to use this product?

I don't know what "this" is exactly (it would be tremenously useful if you mentioned the product's name, at least), but some products, like Ron's brushes, are for use in a 2D application. They have default installation pathes for Photoshop, but you generally can use them in Gimp, too. You'd have to set the Photosho installation path in DIM to your GImp location, though a manual install of these products is usually recommended (download through DIM, then  stop install, and go to the download folder, unzip and move the brushes or backgrounds to the proper location).

  • Most likely this was installing Daz Studio and its plug-ins. Two of the plug-ins are links to other application - the 3D Bridge for Photoshop and GoZ for ZBrush. You don't need either to use Daz Studio, and can do the tasks they simplify in other ways, but if you don't have the applications being bridged to you should ignore the plug-ins (delete the zip if it's stuck in Ready to Install, then in Ready to Download hide it - you can do both by right-click menu).

This is the error I am getting while trying to install.  Yet supposedly I DON'T need Photoshop? Is there a guide somewhere that will show me how to install WITHOUT Photoshop?  Any help is appreciated!

  • having the same issue its very confusing and there isn't a guide  for this at all and also it acts like i need photoshop. But if  i dont then whats the deal?

You don't need Photoshop to use DS, you do need Photoshop to use the bridge to/from Photoshop. If you don't have Photoshop don't download or install the bridge - if you right-click on it in the Ready to Download tab of Install Manager you can hide it. The same aplied to GoZ, which is useful only iof you have ZBrush.
