Roadway as I prop I can add to a scene...

I've bought one or two bits of roadway. I would love something that can generate roads like terra dome but with paths I can pave. I have some cars but nowhere to drive them aside from little snippets of sets. Any interest in roadwork as a prop you can lay down? What's everyone doing for streets?

There is this for TerraDome: http://www.daz3d.com/road-n-rails-for-terradome-3:

Also, have you seen this: http://www.shapemagic.com/roadmaker/ ? It is for use in Bryce, but you could create the terrain and roadway in Bryce and then save as an obj to import into DAZ Studio. Or since it is for greyscale terrain maps it should probably work with Infinito in DAZ Studio.

ETA: There are some fairly long roads, such as this: http://www.daz3d.com/rural-crossroads, available.

For city streets, I have this pack. It's modualr, so the streets can be as long as you want.

awesome. The terra product is funny because I've done numerous searches in the store and that never showed up. I have the terradome 3 and many expansions and that was never shown. Streets is coming along too. Anyone make this stuff for sci-fi themes?

there is also Roadmaker by the same guy who made shapemagic which adds roads to any greyscale height map.

You can make them in photoshop, Gimp etc or get DEM data onesor use Terrainparty.

Or export heightmaps of Bryce or Carrara terrains.

there are other programs like Terragen that use them too.

It works in Carrara (where I have used it) and Bryce among others but can also be used on a plane in DS as displacement

For scifi I absolutely love the streets in Urban Future 4, unfortunately they are not modular and the roads are incomplete :(

I've tried using geometry editor to make modular sections but #1 there are no curved sections and #2, there's just so many tiny bits in a huge object that it takes forever to "cut everything out" and I've always seemed to mess up somewhere and have to start all over.

I've also tried exporting the roads to hexagon for easy "chopping" but for some reason, some of the geometry on the roads gets lost and the textures get all funky when sent back to Daz. :(

Oh dang. Thanks for the replies. I bought the road add-on for Terra-Dome 3.

    I also have infinito.

Wow. You mention Urban Future 4 and I just wrote a post about DreamLight's products and if they are true 3-D sets or static backdrops.

I guess I'd have to reuse the same street and carefully point the camera to suggest different areas or something.

So I wonder which renders faster for animation. --> Generated Sets like Terradome 3 environments or 3-d sets like buying mountain areas or city sets like Urban future 4.

  • There are some rather old products by Kruse over on Rendo that are morphable sections of road that you can join together.
