Can we get better promos for Elite products? PLEASE?

I get a bit tired that while vendors are normally held to a high standard for promos and show all the makeup and eye options and tattoos and so on, quite often the elite textures do not.

Newest texture, for example: http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/victoria-5-elite-texture-nichole

It says in description: "Nichole comes with a wide variety of eye, makeup, and skin texture options"

"Wide variety" apparently means 2 face options according to 'what's included," rather, one "plain" skin and one makeup. 6 eye colors are listed but promos only show ONE color. A tattoo is also listed but not shown in ONE promo image at all.

Come ON. This is seriously lacking don't you think???

Am I the only one who won't buy what the store won't show us?

And I've hated, repeatedly, the lack of options these "elite" figures have. Some don't have any make up at all.

What works for me? I take one of my favorite skins, Lana, and apply the material settings to a normal texture and tweak.

I just bought it, and the "read me" included was actually the Steph5 one, so will need to actually do a couple of renders to find out.

It was the freckles on the torso that got my attention, there's a bit of trust involved what with it being "elite" and all ...but yeah, it makes better business sense to actually show the options available to help customers make informed decisions.

Nichole texture does render great, but options are limited - you can see them all in the pane to left of face render (Valerie icon is unrelated to Nichole). I don't use Poser so I've only installed DAZ content, so don't know what's where with the Poser Companion stuff.

Both face options are shown in promos, but not eye colours or the tattoo. The tat isn't a "tramp stamp" on lower back... it's located where people commonly hide an appendectomy scar with tat (lower right abdomen)

Genitally speaking, front is good, nothing 'round back - only a problem if doing extreme/explicit nude work.

Curiously, the toenails have deep red nail varnish on them, but the fingernails are natural

I had a voucher I could use so, it was easy for me to decide to purchase... It's certainly a great texture, so it'll simply boil down to what one feels is a good price for easy realism as to whether it's worth it or not.

I'm not so sure about "high standard" concerning promos. Promo quality and the information they deliver seems all over the place between products. As far as makeup/tattoo/piercing options, I hate it when the default has it permanently baked in. Not this product but it happens enough to be noteworthy.

Sometimes I also think that some more pictures would sell a product way better.

Anyway, as I am always looking for good skins - and I am not in urgent demand of a lot of makeup options - this one got my attention and I think it is a very well done one.

Ooooh, thanks for reminding me of coupons. Lol. I used my PC coupon and picked this up for less than $7. She sure is a beauty. :D

looking at the other images posted of the new V5 character, why is it that my render comes out with a dark skin and when I choose the blue eyes, it comes out like this, milky? What am I doing wrong?

do you have the SSS elite shader installed? I assume you're using DS... if so make sure you're applying a DS mat and not a poser mat.... I can't really advise more, I wasn't able to buy her :(

PS.. this is kinda related... but I wanted to show how, if you have ONE of the Elite figures, you can apply the mats from them to another skin to make it look different.

For example, I took Addy's Syrah for V4, which I love for its awesomeness, haha..... seriously, I'm a fan of Addy's characters. But i wanted a less dreamy style of her Syrah...
So I applied Lana's mat settings (control double click on Lana's DS mat and click IGNORE MAPS). I then increased bump (and added bump to the displacement and set to about 20%.

First pic is showing original gorgeous Syrah....

second pic is a different look! I love it :) Get way more use out of your characaters. Try mixing and matching... Syrah for example looks great with Maria Elite Mats too. :)

Edit again to say if the first pic is a bit reddish its the lights... I paled lana's mats down to bring out the olive tones for that character.... and made the lighting warmer... too warm for the first one :)

Is it the PA, Daz or both who do the promos?

Like they say, "a picture is worth a thousand words." I want to see a product at its best, preferably with renders in DS and Poser, and as many of the options shown or it doesn't get my money. In fact over the past year many promos appear more and more amateurish to me.

One thing I noticed about a few of the promo pics for Nichole (and Stephanie 5) is that DAZ doesn't seem to follow their own rules on what's acceptable. In the 'Acceptable Ways of Handling Nudity' sticky, it states: If your image shows the genitals, pubic area, anus or major part of the buttocks of your figure or the nipples and major part of the breasts of a female figure, and if it’s essentially skin-coloured (or has pubic hair over genitals) - we aren’t worried about figures made into scaled, feathered or furred monsters as long as they don’t have visible genital organs or nipples - then there must be opaque clothing of some kind over the area, or it must be screened by solid scenery and props in the scene (emphasis mine). Three of the Nichole pics and four of the S5 pics show the figure from the rear (in some cases close-ups of the rear end) wearing a thong.

Just to be clear, I'm not complaining about the images themselves, and I'd be the last person to complain about bare skin, but I have seen images like this that members have posted in the forums that were removed for violating the rule I quoted above. If DAZ can use them in product promos, then why can't we post similar pics when we use those products? It just seems a like a bit of a double standard to me. If it was up to me, people here where I live could walk around naked. Well, maybe not in January, but weather permitting...

Getting back on topic, it would be nice to see clear pictures of everything you're getting, like the tattoos. I think it could be a big help in deciding if the product is what a prospective customer needs or not.

They used to have Artzone to post those kind of promo pics in, but sadly no longer. Or breasts and buttocks at least, some things were still off limits.

Thank you....I had to start a thread on a different site showing how my product worked because if this rule..but look what we have here..the same level of nudity I had originally. Anyways I like the texture set, still deciding if I need it.

The nudity rules apply to the forum - the may, if DAZ deems it acceptable, allow stuff we wouldn't (just as, when we had functioning filters, we allowed bare breasts on females but the store didn't).

Ah, it's a little clearer. Thanks. I think I will pick up the Nichole skin later today. I am really impressed with the quality of the Elite skin textures I already have.

Still doesn't address the fact that the promos didn't show the tattoo, or the different eye textures... basic important things included in most promos.

Here's a quick render showing the tattoo. Sorry you can't really see the eyes, but I was really more interested in playing with the lights to get the skin to look right. With just a simple default distant light, the skin was rendering way too dark. I think I've got a decent balance here, but I know I have a LOT to learn about lighting.

I don't think I've used Nichole before, so here's a render I did with UE2.light (pluss one directional sunlight), in the café. I just needed an excuse to post the render.
