Just a heads up, it was just released this morning. :)

So far it is looking like there is some demand for Skydomes, since this one seems to be doing pretty well so far, even without any special advertising. That being the case, I'll go ahead and continue working on the other Skydomes in my [long] list of ongoing projects.

    Any special requests?

  • I have a soft spot for sunrises...

I would purchase something that featured the "blue" hour. I haven't seen anything Iray that features twilight (right before dawn or right after sunset).

Twilight would be cool.  I also agree, sunrise and sunset.  Stormy, like that eerie green the sky turns right before a tornado hits...I love the look of dark and stormy skies.I picked this one up today, its going to work  very well for some things I have in mind.

This is a beautiful product! Some future suggestions:

There are very few night skies and those are particularly useful with the recent Hallowe'en releases. The same goes for stormy-looking skies - there don't seem to be any of those for Iray (with some optional lightning).

Would definitely pick up any starscapes for Iray, too, for astronauts and spaceships - a ton of models and environments exist for space, yet we have so little in the way of Iray starscapes.

Magical fantasy worlds also have no Iray options. Inferno skies which look like they're on fire or beautiful rainbow spectrums... Anything which looks magical.

Alien worlds could definitely use skies which have unusual sky colours, like red, green, yellow, blue, purple and so on.

How about an underwater 'sky' for submerged scenes?

  • Sunrises, night time, fantasy worlds and starscapes... Interestingly, it just so happens I have been working on exactly those. Will continue then. :)

I agree with the other suggestions . Oh and sunsets too.

Those and definitely stormy. Like Ice Dragon mentioned... those ominous skies. Green before a tornado. Deep slate grey with those huge thunder heads back-lit by lightning...those skies that make you look up and know all heck is about to break loose! Lol
  • A skydome with actual lightning flashes would be be amazing, now that I think of it...

  • I'm glad I am on the same page as all of you. Lightnining flashes is another animated product I have been experimenting with. lol.

Yeah, with TD3 and a few other things, I really have a hankering for 'clean' skydomes that are _just_ clouds/sky, rather than having horizon and ground baked in.

    Kudos!

Sound fabulous!  Looking forward to what comes next!

  • Hello! I'm clearly missing something in the process I'm using to use this product. No matter what I do, I end up with black images with no actual lights. I've tried loading each of the products in different parts (cloud card, box, skydome only (render & scene), but each configuration just leads to a big black screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jason

First make sure you have iray as your render engine ( I know it sounds silly but happens to me all the time.)

    @JasonSWrench,

Someone else just had this issue, and it turned out that they just needed to update the drivers on their graphics card. (since the latest version of Daz Studio will not work with older Iray drivers anymore).

  • Thanks! Updating now. Did get the render mode to work.

  • Nice work on both counts Ivy. I am liking the idea of inserting islands into the cloud skydome.

    And that crab... poor guy.

I have my first render going with this.  It looks great with one exception.  I have quite a few fireflies still after 20 hours.  Any advice on how to get rid of the fireflies?  Will they go away if I render long enough?  Everything looks done with the exception of all the sparkly bits.

the default interations is set at 100 .. i had to push it up to 3500 to get rid of the fireflys  and then there were still a few.. I was able to render this set in about 15 minutes at 4000 interations which is what I had my last render setting at.  i have  a 980ti sc cards

     so check the interation setting

That is very much like what I needed this for.  My story has three realms, Sky Earth and Underwater and this will be absolutely perfect for my sky realm.  Lots of islands, some larger landmasses and various flying things as well as bridges.  This is so perfect its almost scary lol.  I will be adding some mountain tops poking through here and there as well.  Super excited about although I need to finish a project I am working first.

All these incredible and imaginative renders sold me on this. I wonder if it will be in a catch-up sale... I kept debating, then saw all these awesome renders. Want!

I turned off limits and upped the render quality on mine.  It's already maxed out at 15000 iterations at a quality of 2 and is still going now that I've turned off limits.  I still have way more fireflies than I would expect.  Not sure why.  I haven't had this much trouble with fireflies since I was a newbie.  I'm CPU only but still over 24 hours rendering now.

  • I am guessing that the fireflies are due to the volumetric cube, since light bounces around inside it for an eternity it seems (such is the nature of volumetric lighting).

Try turning the cube off, and see if that takes care of the fireflies.

Nice images!  I had that on, but still had a ton of fireflies.  I ended up stopping my render and postworking them out.

Here is my final image, first render with the Epic Skydome.

I'll try not using the volumetric cube next time and see how it goes.  I really liked the atmosphere so it's tough giving up that cube.  :)  I was able to pretty much get rid of most of the fireflies in Gimp.
